Dear Friends,
Happy New Year!
As many of you know, the Harvard Square Business Association has a history that spans a century-plus. Our success is due to many factors: our ageless mission of “promoting commerce in Harvard Square while being good stewards of the public space”, the dedication of our officers, our committed board of directors, active members and significant funding from the majority of the Square’s property owners.
Prior to COVID, it was typical for the HSBA to produce 110+ events per year…all of them free, family-friendly and open to the public. While the virus curbed our ability to host some public events, we pivoted and stayed productive, relevant and helpful to our community and our district. Over the past 24 months, we executed dozens of activities due to the strength of our organization and our partnerships with the City of Cambridge, as well as Harvard University. Working together with unwavering determination, we kept Harvard Square clean, safe, fun, relevant and welcoming to all.
While Omnicron is cramping our style at the moment, last year’s robust schedule, (please scroll down to the bottom for our 2021 Retrospective) proved that we can manage large outside events and programs safely and within the guidelines set forth by the City of Cambridge and the CDC.
We eagerly anticipate the return of our neighbors, students, tourists, and visitors from across the globe. Our shops, restaurants, music venues, museums, hotels and professional services are ready and waiting for you. We invite you to come and enjoy Harvard Square’s patios, public spaces, parks and outside celebrations…the weather will not deter us!
Wishing you good health and happiness in the new year.
Denise Jillson
Executive Director

Adult Introduction to Ballet Courses
5-week, 10-class Introduction to Ballet courses are designed for beginners with little to no experience, students with some experience who are not yet ready to take open classes, or dancers returning to the art form after a few years away; ages 18 and up. Pre-registration and full enrollment is required.
The courses give students an overview of the art form and cover all the fundamental elements that comprise the movement vocabulary of classical ballet and how these basics can be best applied by the individual student. Students progressively learn how these elements are used to build steps, phrases and eventually longer choreographed sequences (combinations) that are the basis of the dances of traditional theatrical presentations.
Class size is limited.

This combo creates a full bodied cup, tasting of caramel with hints of African spices and fruit notes. You can purchase a bag 1 pound bag to brew at home or come in for a cup as you stroll through the square. We roast this blend of beans in our Jamaica Plain Headquarters!
