Rabbi Marc Schneier Interviews
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff
| | |
This past Sunday morning, an overflow crowd - over 1,000 people - welcomed Steve Witkoff, Assistant to the President, US Special Envoy to the Middle East, and US Special Envoy for Peace Missions, to a special Stewart Cahn Global Breakfast Forum, in conversation with Rabbi Marc Schneier.
In his introduction, Rabbi Schneier noted the profound honor to the congregation of Witkoff's presence, having just returned from hostage negotiations in the Middle East and heading on to Washington, DC as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with President Donald Trump.
The extensive discussion covered Iranian nuclear negotiations, Gaza cease-fire and hostage negotiations, the expansion of the Abraham Accords, and Witkoff's own Jewish identity.
The Witkoffs, who reside in Southampton, arrived with 11 members of their extended family - we look forward to seeing them all again soon as the newest members of our congregational family!

In his conversation with Steve Witkoff, Rabbi Marc Schneier announced the magnanimous gift of Hampton Synagogue Trustee Mona & David Sterling of $500,000 to facilitate the Chihuly Holocaust Memorial Tower that will be dedicated in front of Jack's House. Rabbi Schneier noted that the gift was a challenge grant, predicated on 10 additional families making $50,000 gifts within the next two weeks. Within 3 minutes, 12 families made such commitments, representing an additional $600,000!
Our Chihuly Holocaust Memorial Tower, the first permanent Holocaust memorial in the Hamptons and the only Holocaust memorial of Dale Chihuly's career, will be dedicated on Sunday, August 31 - Labor Day Weekend.

Speaking to a Jewish community gathering in the Hamptons led by Rabbi Marc Schneier, Witkoff said he was hopeful that a deal with Hamas could soon be finalized, citing strong momentum for an agreement. Witkoff pledged that Trump would “reshape the Middle East” and reiterated the president’s unwavering support for Israel, noting that Trump had invited Netanyahu to the White House three times since returning to office in January.

See you at Shul! Dune Deck is again very generously providing Saturday shuttle service that makes regular loops around Westhampton Beach [see schedule and stops below - watch for the white Hampton Hopper minibus], connecting Dune Road with the village. This hop-on/hop-off community service will again be available, free of charge, to anyone who wants it. This year, the service is expanded with stops on the "mainland," including the corner of Bayfield Lane and Oneck Road. This service may enable those who find it difficult to walk long distances in the summer heat to attend The Hampton Synagogue, as one of the stops in town is at CVS, just across the street from the synagogue.
NEW - 8:30am stop at the Bath & Tennis

Located at Jack’s House, the Manes Art Center of The Hampton Synagogue in Westhampton Beach engages members of the greater Hamptons community in high-quality works of art and cultural experiences for the educational and enhancement of all.
The Manes Art center is the gift of our distinguished benefactor, Dr. Harvey Manes, a passionate collector of art for over 40 years. Dr. Manes sits on the Board of the Nassau County Museum of Art and has lent numerous works from his collection to notable museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Heckscher Museum, NCMA, Jewish Museum-NYC, and others.
The quality and breadth of the Manes Art Center collection features an eclectic collection of modern, contemporary, and old master artists, as well as sculptures. Artists in the collection include Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Koons, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, Marc Chagall, Yaacov Agam, Jim Dine, among others.
On permanent view in the Barnet Family Chapel is the work of world-renowned artist, Dale Chihuly, who designed and created the Chapel’s Fiore windows that allow natural light to interact with the space in dynamic harmony, Eternal Light, and the only Menorah of Chihuly’s illustrious career.
