Message from the Head of School
Community is a core value of our school. It is easy to take for granted day to day, but it’s at times of need and times of joy that we remember its importance. In the aftermath of last weekend’s events, as parents gathered in our Beit Kehillah to support one another, I repeatedly heard words of gratitude for being part of this community. The Yavneh community is strong, and while some connections are spontaneous, its existence takes effort and intention. The more we invest of ourselves in building our community, the stronger our community will be. A cornerstone of our school community is our Yavneh Parent Association. We have been blessed with talented YPA leadership since the school’s inception. I am proud to share these words of our current YPA President, Suzana Fischer Hotimsky:
Message from the YPA President
YPA Invites You
By Suzana Fischer Hotimsky, YPA President

The empirical evidence is consistent, positive and convincing: families have a major influence on their children’s achievement in school and through life. Students with involved parents are more likely to succeed academically and have greater social competence. Both students AND schools benefit when parents are involved in education. Read more

Students in Action
At Monday’s All School T’fillah, Yavneh sang songs and prayers of peace and healing. Grades 4-8 held a memorial service and lit a yahrzeit candle in memory of the victims of the Pittsburgh Tree of Life Synagogue shooting.
Kitah Gimel students learned more about the fascinating and special relationship between humans and animals, particularly dogs. They focused on the different services that dogs provide humans, and learned about the potential of rescue dogs from shelters to be adopted and trained as search and rescue dogs. They had an exciting visit from the volunteer organization known as "Canine Specialized Search Team" (CSST) along with two of their trained dogs to help the students gain valuable insight and experience in the exploration of the 3rd grade theme of relationships.
Kitah Bet visited the Heritage Rose Garden to study pollinators and plants in detail. They inspected and dissected roses and toured the rose garden and orchard.
Kitah Vav looked at the physical and chemical properties of similar crystals to determine how to identify unknown crystals based on their properties.
In Kitah Hay, students created and experimented with catapults.
Kitah Gimel and Kitah Dalet took part in a fire safety assembly.
As Kitah Gan Geffen discovered, marble runs are much more fun when you create your own!
In STEAM, Gan Rimon continues to explore airplanes. They used popsicle sticks and paper to create something they could fly.
