Some of my answers brought the house down with laughter, but when I was asked who was the greatest man who ever lived, my answer was a serious one: George Washington. Somehow, at the tender young age of four, between the story of the cherry tree and his noble image on the dollar bill, I had taken on the first president as a role model. In my young mind he was the greatest man who ever lived. Read more

Students in Action
Yavneh's student-run Hebrew radio station "Kol Yavneh" hosted a spontaneous broadcast yesterday for UNESCO World Radio Day which aims to enhance cooperation between radio stations in the world and accelerate the decision makers to facilitate access to information by radio. The theme this year was “Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace”. The Kol Yavneh Radio Team decided to take action and stand up for Peace and add their share to the daily world wide broadcasts. Listen to the recorded show here. Tune into the next broadcast next Wednesday here.
Thank you to the Gan parent volunteers for teaching the class about the Chinese and Vietnamese Lunar New Years. The class learned about customs, traditional clothing, and the Lion Dance, tasted sticky rice cakes, and even participated in a Lunar New Year parade.
Mazal tov to Kitah Dalet on their milestone. Last night they led a weekday arvit (evening) service at Congregation Sinai. The class created a Siddur with art and poems and held a musical performance for this special service.
Kitah Gimel families participated in the "Tree of Life" learning program on Sunday.
On Monday we celebrated the 100th day of school. Students in Kitah Alef and Kitah Gan brought in 100 objects to group and count. Kitah Gan celebrated with a party where the students designed their own shirts.
During a special STEAM project with their middle school buddies, Kitah Alef Te’enna learned what a capillary is and how it works through the use of tissue, water, and food coloring. Capillary action is a process where, like water in tree roots, a liquid moves up a solid. This of course happens in our body, too!
Kitah Hay sailed their boats made out of reusable materials in STEAM. They will be taking a field trip to visit the tall ships in San Francisco in a few weeks.
