Message from the STEAM Coordinator
Integration of Robotics to other School Subjects and Projects

As time goes by, I am more convinced that history was right. STEAM might be a new term but it is not a passing fad or teaching trend. Historically, mathematicians and engineers were often accomplished artists and poets. Read more
Corona Virus Update
We are not aware of any cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in our school community and it is our understanding that circulation of COVID-19 in the US is very limited. Due to the possibility of asymptomatic infection, public health authorities are encouraging any child whose family has recently returned from China or another affected area to self-quarantine for fourteen days. Should flu symptoms develop during that time, please contact your physician and the county health department at 408-885-3980, M-F 8-5.

As is always the case, we encourage students, staff and families to:
● Wash hands frequently
● Use proper cough etiquette (into the elbow or tissue, NOT into the hand)
● Stay home when sick until fever free for more than 24 hours without the use of fever
reducing medicine (e.g. Tylenol, Advil)

Since early February our classrooms have been proactively sprayed with disinfectants on a regular basis, a practice that will be continued for the foreseeable future.
If you or your child develop flu-like symptoms, call your medical professional first to determine whether an in-person visit to a doctor or medical facility is advised.
We have also been advised that having a flu shot (if you or your children have not had one this season) can be helpful in reducing instances of regular flu, therefore reducing possible confusion of mistaking a regular flu strain for COVID-19.

While it is understandable that adults may be concerned about this situation, keep in mind the importance of modeling calm and measured conversation regarding the situation with your children. This article from a few weeks ago provides good advice about talking with your children, particularly given the increased media attention they may be aware of.
Thank you for doing your part in keeping our Yavneh community healthy!
Students in Action
The Middle School Science Fair took place this week. Congratulations to all the students for their thoughtful and inspiring entries. Congrats also to the two 1st place projects. Oliver and Yotam (8th) created an engineering device using the braille system on rotating discs that would make it possible to communicate with the deaf and blind community. Lili (7th) performed a science experiment to show the most efficient amount of water needed to support farming crickets as a protein replacement to meat protein. More photos
