Floating Islands in the Pond

Cari Park Pond Improvements Take Root

Two floating islands made from recycled plastics have been installed in the pond at Cari Park to improve water quality. The islands provide food for local habitat, as well as a platform for pollinator plants. The plants' roots extend deep into the water and help deter the growth of algae. The project was funded by the City's Community Investment Fund and Hastings Environmental Protectors and will improve odors and other pond aesthetics and could be extended to other waterbodies in Hastings.

Red Rock Corridor Project

In 2016, the Red Rock Corridor Commission adopted a plan that outlined steps to implement bus rapid transit in the corridor, which runs from downtown St. Paul, down Highway 61 to Hastings. Pandemic changes and other developments have led the commission to undertake a vision refresh, and the project team is currently seeking input from focus groups, as well as in-person and online survey opportunities through the fall.
