Restoring a Savanna

Tree Removal at Vermillion Linear Park

This week, Dakota County Parks and Trails staff in collaboration with Friends of the Mississippi River are removing a pocket of trees at Vermillion River Linear Park. Forestry mowing recently was completed and several trees were marked for removal. These efforts are in line with the city’s Natural Resource Management Plan. The goal is to restore native grass-dominated savanna. Native species, including milkweeds and other flowers for pollinators, will be planted over the next couple of years.
