Thank You Hastings Fire and EMS

Fire Calls Increase Over the Holidays

Unfortunately, four red lights were added recently to the wreath hanging outside the Hastings Fire Department. Each year, the "Keep the Wreath White" awareness campaign begins with white lights at Thanksgiving with hopes of ending the holiday season without any red lights, which signify a fire has taken place in the fire service area. In addition to responding to four fires, calls for service increased during the holidays, with 36 service calls and counting, just since New Year's Eve. Thank you to our dedicated Fire/EMS crews that work around the clock to keep our community safe! Please continue to take caution with holiday lights, live trees and cooking.

New Rules for Food Trucks

New Rules Protect the Public and Make it Easier to License a Food Truck

The City Council recently amended the City Code to include language to support a formal licensing process for mobile food units. The ordinance changes define the license and application requirements, liability insurance requirements and performance standards to help protect the interest of the public. Additionally, the new language highlights the required criminal history background investigation for ice cream truck vendors that travel through residential districts. Finally, the new language clarifies that staff can process and issue licenses administratively.
