Honoring Juneteenth

City Offices Closed June 19


The City of Hastings Government offices will be closed on Monday, June 19, in recognition of Juneteenth, the official end of slavery in the United States. Earlier this year, Governor Walz signed a bill recognizing June 19 as an official holiday in the State of Minnesota.


Locally, Building Remembrance for Reconciliation will hold a Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom on Saturday, June 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Artspace River Lofts, 121 Tyler St.

Community Development Updates

Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union


Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, 1731 N. Frontage Road, celebrated its recent renovations during a ribbon-cutting event this afternoon. Congratulations to Affinity!

KFC Under Construction


Dirt is being moved at 18th and Vermillion streets for a new KFC restaurant.

The Confluence Prepares to Open


Lettering went up on the outside of the building for The Confluence Hotel this week, and IDM Hospitality held a job fair at City Hall. An opening date has not yet been announced. The Confluence Hotel building is a restoration of the former Old Hudson Manufacturing building and is located along the riverfront near Lock and Dam Road. The new building will feature a 77-room hotel, restaurant and event space, as well as apartments.

Welcome New Staff and Promotions


Alex Menke is the City's new Economic Development Coordinator. He recently graduated with a master's degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Minnesota and spent the last year and half working for the City of Shoreview in planning and economic development. Welcome, Alex!



Tanya Edmison joins the Community Development Department as a Building Inspector. She has had a long-standing career in construction across many different aspects. Her responsibilities include assisting in the compliance, enforcement and interpretation of the building code and related ordinances as adopted by the City of Hastings. She will also review building plans and perform building inspections and code-related enforcement duties. Welcome, Tanya!


Alana Siebenaler has been promoted to Building Inspector. She has served as a permit tech and most recently senior permit tech in the Building Safety/Community Development Department. The department has experienced a significant increase in permit-related activity in the last few years. Alana is dedicated to providing excellent customer service. Congratulations, Alana!



Lake Isabel Park Under Construction

Lake Isabel Park Updates


Lake Isabel Park is under construction with many updates taking shape. An ADA accessible walkway between the upper and lower areas of the park will be constructed. The park will include new playground equipment, new basketball court and new picnic shelter. The fishing pier is back in place following spring flooding and open for fishing.

The Hastings/EMS Department is a special place to work. Learn about the camaraderie that makes an already meaningful role even more rewarding. Consider serving the Hastings community as a paid-on-call firefighter/EMT. Information meetings will be held June 22 at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Applications close June 30th.

Welcome New Police Personnel

Officers Glancey and Domeier


Sean Glancey recently joined the Hastings Police Department as a Community Service Officer. Sean graduated from East Ridge High School in Cottage Grove and obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Minnesota State University-Mankato. He is working towards his certificate in law enforcement through Metro State University and will attend Hennepin Technical College this summer for the skills portion of the program. In his spare time, Sean enjoys watching professional hockey and football and is a supporter of the Minnesota and Boston sports teams. Welcome, Officer Glancey!


Officer James Domeier started with the Hastings Police Department on June 12. Officer Domeier has 12 years of experience in public safety that include Army medic, firefighter/EMT, 911 dispatcher and most recently as a police officer for the City of Brooklyn Center. He attended Rasmussen University. Welcome, Officer Domeier!
