Fireworks Laws and Safety

Stay safe this summer. Know the difference between legal and illegal fireworks. Ground displays, fountains and sparklers are legal and are permitted between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. only.

Fireworks that go airborne or explode are illegal. These include firecrackers, bottle rockets, and roman candles to name a few.

Remember that fireworks can be loud and create a noise disturbance for neighbors, pets and people with post traumatic stress disorder. Residents should call 911 to report illegal fireworks. Those who wish to remain anonymous can text the word HASTINGS to TIP411 (847411); however, this is not monitored 24/7.

Hastings to Receive Nearly $1 Million in Public Safety Funding

Senator Judy Seeberger met today with public safety leaders at the HERO Center in Cottage Grove to discuss public safety funding for Senate District 41. Mayor Mary Fasbender, Police Chief David Wilske, Fire Chief John Townsend and Deputy Chief Bryan Schowalter attended to discuss the Senate bill that was co-authored by Sen. Seeberger and passed as part of the State budget adopted last month, which includes one-time public safety aid for local governments. Hastings will receive $975,960 of the aid, which can be used for community violence prevention and intervention, community engagement, mental health crisis response, victim services, training programs, first responder wellness, equipment for fire, rescue, and emergency services, and personnel or equipment costs. The City of Hastings greatly appreciates Senator Seeberger and elected officials who advocated for the public safety funding and looks forward to using the money to improve public safety in the City of Hastings.
