Dear Educator,  Thank you for visiting us at the Tuskegee History Center this past summer, as part of the Alabama Bicentennial Tuskegee Institute Teachers workshop. We were so inspired by your presence and interest in the history we present that we have decided to start a new 'Adopt-A-Teacher' program . We would like to adopt you! We want you to know that we are available as a resource for you to use, visit and interact with as you continue your work as an educator. This semester, we plan to send you emails we hope will have information you can use inside and outside the classroom. We want to support you and the important work that you do with our children.

Census Resources for Teachers Of particular interest to us at this time is the upcoming 2020 Census. Making sure that 'all' Macon County children are counted is important to us all . An accurate count is a factor in federal dollars coming to Alabama to support education and various programs, including, but certainly not limited to school lunch programs and other programs that support children from low income families.

Classroom Resources for Black History Month Speaking of resources to better support you, have you decided how to c ommemorate Black History Month in your classroom this year? PBS created 20 lesson plans and resources that cover topics ranging from civil rights events to discussions about race in current events. Take a look! Locally Inspired Classroom Resources This Black History Month, teach your students about the life and work of pioneering sculptor Isaac Scott Hathaway using a website created by Auburn University, in collaboration with us, the Tuskegee Human and Civil Rights Center. The site is a resource tool for you and includes a biography of Hathaway, photos, podcast, and more. Take a look!

By the way, starting the week of February 3rd, we resume our public visitation schedule from 10am to 3pm Tuesday through Saturday in February and March. Our special event date this year includes  Wednesday, April 1st - Census Day . We are preparing to welcome the community in support of a goal of 100% Macon County participation in this year's 2020 Census.   Again, thank you for visiting us. If you would prefer that we communicate with you by text, let us know and we'll work on communicating with you as you prefer.
