Doc Talk with Dr. Paul Hammer

Diastasis Screening

Diastasis recti, or a separation of the abdominal muscles, is common during and after pregnancy. After pregnancy, the separation generally heals, but if it does not heal well it could contribute to back pain or make returning to exercise challenging. Come to Island Health where physical therapists will screen you for diastasis recti and recommend appropriate exercises or formal physical therapy if appropriate.
