WE CANNOT CREATE HISTORY IN ISOLATION |
Working with Robbie Harper and Jacquelyn Lynn to craft the news release announcing our incredible new board members was an opportunity for me to reflect on the time I’ve spent serving on boards.
Serving on a board of directors is an honor and a responsibility, and it’s something I’ve had the privilege of doing for a dozen organizations, both for-profit and nonprofit, over the years.
Please indulge me as I take a stroll down memory lane and share the story of my first board seat.
I was the newly appointed vice president of the West Texas Region in El Paso. In my position as the top officer for the gas distribution company in the region, I served more than 200,000 El Paso residents and ensured the smooth functioning of natural gas distribution at Ft. Bliss.
Shortly after my arrival, I met Richard Dayoub, a charming man who was well-connected, resourced and highly respected in the community—and the CEO of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce. When Richard asked me to join the chamber’s board, I had no idea what God had in store for me.
The El Paso Chamber of Commerce and its partners have played a significant role in creating over 220,000 jobs across the region, injecting a staggering $4.6 billion into the economy every year. Although I can’t claim their accomplishments as my own, I’m honored to have played a small part in their impressive achievements during my time there.
I marvel when I look back and see God’s fingerprints on my life, don’t you?

There is never a coincidence, just the brush stroke of God’s great plan for each of us. | |
That time on the El Paso Chamber’s board was just one of the many ways God has prepared me for such a time as this.
God has given me and other accomplished leaders the vision to see the rise of a U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce in our nation.
Such a monumental mission could never be a solo endeavor. It needs a wide range of earthly resources and talent all working under God’s precious guidance.
In Judges 7:2, “The Lord said to Gideon, ‘You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength.’” (NLT)
|
Similarly, God is rallying leaders today to rise, unify and empower others to further His kingdom in the marketplace, fortify Christian businesses, and transform our cities. This collective vision is the bedrock upon which the U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce stands.
But it’s not just about the board. By joining the U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce as a member and attending the upcoming expo and national conference, you, too, can be part of this transformative movement. This is about building a legacy—one that future generations will recognize and appreciate.
Please come alongside us on this critical journey. We need you. We can’t create history in isolation.

Key Takeaway: The number of abortions performed in North Carolina dropped by 31% after a new state law prohibiting abortions after 12 weeks’ gestation took effect. The Care for Women, Children and Families Act (SB 20) took effect on July 1, 2023, leading to 1,310 fewer abortions performed in North Carolina in July, compared to June, a study has found.
The analysis was performed by the Guttmacher Institute, an anti-life research group that was founded as a part of Planned Parenthood.
In its analysis of previous pro-life state laws, Guttmacher said it found that abortions increased in states that were close to or bordering states that restrict abortion.
However, this did not occur with SB 20. “As abortions dropped significantly in North Carolina in July, there wasn’t a corresponding increase in South Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia or Maryland,” The Hill reports.

Key Takeaway: Cox had been posting about their situation on Facebook and the first miracle happened when a friend saw the post and connected them with Republican Rep. Cory Mills of Florida.
"The next day he flew out to Jordan personally, flew out to Jordan, came across the border, made his contacts and met us in Nazareth and got on the bus with us in Nazareth, and escorted us all the way across the border," Cox said. "He personally took care of us and got us into a hotel in Amman, Jordan, where we were able to fly out the following day. I just truly believe that God used my friend and Representative Mills as his instruments to rescue us," Cox said.

Key Takeaway: From 22-year-old Gunnar Henderson, the youngest player on the team, to 36-year-old Kyle Gibson, players came together in faith and in Bible studies. "We do Bible studies once a week and have chapel on Sundays," Henderson said. "It's really cool to spend time and be in fellowship with those guys."
"Our faith gives us something to have a little unity over, gives us something to lean on whenever you're going through hard times," Gibson said. In pro sports, religious beliefs aren't promoted as part of the public discussion. But to really know the Orioles, several players are eager to share who they are and how they bond.

Key Takeaway: Oklahoma can protect children and adolescents from harmful and experimental transgender medical interventions, a court has ruled.
In May, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed SB 613 into law. The bill made it a felony for health care practitioners to provide anyone under 18 years old with puberty blockers, opposite-sex hormones and surgeries to make them appear more like the opposite sex.
SB 613 also allows children harmed by these damaging procedures to file suit against the health care practitioners who provided them with “gender transgender procedures” until they turn 45.
