It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Cabarrus County! From festive lights to holiday parades, Cabarrus has a tradition or celebration for everyone to enjoy. Team CabCo will have a float in all three parades, so be sure to say hey!

Cabarrus responds to Western North Carolina 

Following the destruction of Tropical Storm Helene in Western North Carolina, Cabarrus County deployed personnel and equipment from multiple departments to help areas affected in the region. 

 

Emergency Management Director Jason Burnett and Cabarrus County Sheriff Van Shaw gave presentations about the efforts during the Cabarrus County Commissioners October Regular Meeting.


Multiple County departments sent resources, including, the Sheriff's Office, Construction Standards, Cooperative Extension, Department of Social Services, Emergency Management and Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services.

5 Things to Know

💰 Due to the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, Cabarrus County received an Individual Assistance Declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Homeowners and renters who had uninsured losses or damages due to Tropical Storm Helene are now eligible to apply for FEMA disaster assistance. FEMA recently extended the deadline to apply through January 7, 2025. There are many types of assistance available.

 

Homeowners and renters affected by the disaster can apply several ways:

 

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Via the FEMA App
  • Calling 800-621-3362


🧠 Cabarrus County will break ground on the highly anticipated Stephen M. Morris Behavioral Health Center on Wednesday, November 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 1000 Progress Place in Concord. The groundbreaking ceremony marks a pivotal milestone in the County’s commitment to improving access to behavioral health services.

📌 Cabarrus County Government offices, including the Cabarrus County Government Center, Human Services Center, Animal Shelter, senior centers, Veterans Services Office, County Landfill and the Household Hazardous Waste Facility will close for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29. Cabarrus County parks will close on Thanksgiving Day and will return to normal hours on Friday, November 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All branches of the Cabarrus County Library System will close early on Wednesday, November 27. They will reopen as normal from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 30.


🌱 Need your soil tested? Bring your soil samples to the Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District (715 Cabarrus Ave W, Room 301, Concord). Samples are sent off on Friday, November 22. Soil testing helps ensure your land or garden is getting the nutrients it needs to thrive. After November, the NC Department of Agriculture’s Agronomic Division will start charging $4/sample from December 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. Cabarrus Soil and Water is now on Facebook.   • The Wendy Gainey Memorial Christmas Tree is back for its 20th year, shining bright in the Cabarrus County Government Center rotunda (65 Church St. S., Concord) and other locations.

How it works


  • You can also "Adopt-A-Family", pack a "Senior Care & Share Shoebox" or drop off a gift card to be given to a family in need at Cooperative Christian Ministry's Crisis Center (246 Country Club Dr. NE Concord). The deadline to drop off shoeboxes is December 4 and the deadline to adopt a family is December 16.

Raven is seeking a home with pet parents who can appreciate her need for a calm environment. Though she may be a bit reserved at first, she just needs a little time to get comfortable. Once she trusts you, she'll be your devoted sidekick. She gets along well with other canine companions, but a meet-and-greet is highly recommended.

Resources

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally-funded program that provides for a one-time payment to help families pay their heating bills. Households including a person aged 60 or older or disabled persons receiving services through the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services are eligible to sign up for assistance from December 1 through December 31. All other households may apply from January 1 through March 31.
