Message from the Executive Director

There are not a lot of tricks, but plenty of treats for the family taking place this Halloween weekend around City Center with music, dancing, games and of course, something sweet that’s good to eat.

To prepare for the big, spooky weekend, City Center retailers will be offering trick-or-treat bags to children visiting their stores prior to Saturday.

There are more than a half-dozen events taking place. Spend your time Sunday, Oct. 30, visiting:

  • City Hall-oween, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the City Hall Parking Lot, 78 Bayard St., where there will be crafts, pumpkins, candy and a DJ.

  • Hub City Sounds: Corazon Latino Festival/Trick or Treat Around Town, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Monument Square Park, as well as New Brunswick Performing Arts Center and the State Theatre New Jersey. Come on down to 2 Livingston Ave., where a community mural installation is happening, face painting, a DJ, traditional dance and vendors.

  • Trunk or Treat at Anshe Emeth Temple, 222 Livingston Ave., about a 10-minute walk from the Heldrich, from 3 to 5 p.m., where there will be a DJ, candy and Halloween activities.

On Halloween, Oct. 31, (the big day), head on over to:

  • Monster Mash from 3 to 6 p.m. at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, 11 Livingston Ave., where there will be trick-or-treating and Halloween activities led by Rutgers Student Athletes and Student Leaders.

  • Trick or Treat & Halloween Family Movie Night at The Yard, 40 College Ave., where at 4 p.m. there will be trick or treating at the restaurants in the courtyard. At 4:30 p.m., there will be a free screening of  “Hotel Transylvania 3.”

  • Unity Square’s Trunk or Treat, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Lord Stirling Elementary School Parking Lot, 101 Redmond St., where there will be candy and Halloween activities.

  • Trunk or Treat from 4:30 to 6 p.m., at Recreation Park, 7 Pine St, where there will be a DJ, food, candy and face painting.

When you’re out and about on George Street (maybe even in costume) don’t forget to grab some selfies with the four Seward Johnson Sculptures still on display around City Center.

For a little frightful fun, the New Jersey Symphony at the State Theatre is performing Jaws in Concert on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Enjoy it all! Best wishes from your ghost host,

Pam Stefanek
