Congratulations - You Made it!
McKenzie Families,

As we head into the summer, I want to thank all of you for a wonderful year. We navigated many challenges and want to thank you for your support as we prioritized the health and safety of our community.

I wanted to thank each of you for sharing your wonderful students with our teachers and staff. We got to learn so many new things, attend field trips and work hard as our community continues to recover.

Be sure to check out our summer camp options below, as well as our spotlight videos congratulating our graduating seniors while simultaneously saying goodbye to some of our beloved staff members who are retiring. For the graduating students & parents, we wish everyone well in their journeys into college, careers and adulthood.

We are also hiring for a couple of positions in our school community, so please spread the word.

Following a well-deserved summer break, watch for email announcements regarding the 2022-2023 school year. But for now, please take a look below at our newly finalized school calendar for the upcoming school year.

We hope you have a happy, safe and fun summer break!

Go Eagles!

Lane Tompkins,
Superintendent
2022-23 Calendar Adopted
The 2022-23 District Calendar was adopted during the June Board of Directors meeting. Next year's calendar has some new features intended to strengthen classroom instruction. The Board first reviewed proposed calendars during their May meeting but requested more information from families about the proposed changes. Thank you to all of you who responded to the survey! Weighing feedback from staff, families and administration, the Board adopted a calendar with the following elements:

  • The number of school days will remain the same at 149 student days.
  • New for next year, each end of the school week day, typically Thursdays, will now be an early dismissal day, and students will be dismissed at 2:54 pm on those days. About an hour earlier than the typical dismissal of 3:50 pm.
  • Most all student half days will be eliminated.
  • MS/HS Class periods will be reduced from 55 mins to 52 mins on those days.
  • Staff will gain 1 hour and 6 mins each week for collaborative work. This work includes collaboratively evaluating student achievement and adjusting instruction, teaming to create cross-grade and cross-content projects and community-based learning opportunities, as well as district and building continuous improvement committee work.
  • Instructional hours will only be slightly impacted with a 2-hour overall reduction from the 2021-2022 calendar.

Over the summer, the district will be working on a plan to provide after-school options for students and families on early release days. Please stay tuned for updates as plans develop.

We hope that this time will help continue our classroom success. Early state assessment data shows our students did very well compared to their peers statewide. We are looking forward to telling you more about that in the fall!

We want to thank everyone for their patience and input while we crafted the calendar this year.
