Participate in our Summer Activities
Every year, we offer several opportunities to both members and non-members that combine learning with playing.
This year, we will continue our popular virtual cooking and science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) experiences that feature interactive experiments.
We may also offer additional in-person and virtual activities. Some activities may have age requirements and some virtual experiences may require kits available for pickup.
Registration begins in May. Email Agent Pamela Bloch for more information.

"Don't Let the Muggles Get You Down"
Magical...that's how Teacher Marilyn Whitmer describes the Harry Potter Garden at Peachtree Elementary School.
Three years ago, Whitmer received support from Principal Gretchen Runaldue, Eagle Scouts, and donors to create the Harry Potter and two butterfly gardens. She then found eight garden enthusiastic students and taught them how to plant and care for the garden.
Since then, Whitmer has earned her certificate in our Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Program and added more more quirky and pollinator plants with our assistance diagnosing plant disease and identifying weeds and invasive plants. She also plans to add additional gardens thanks to a Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Association grant.
Although students and teachers haven't participated in the after-school garden program due to the pandemic, they have still used the garden for socially distanced lunches and hands-on STEAM lessons. No matter what, the garden still inspires and encourages exploration every day. Just like one student discovered as he helped plant the garden, "I love this more than playing video games!"

Improve Your Mood Naturally
While spring activities and weather may boost our mood naturally, sometimes we just need a little bit more of a pick-me-up. Serotonin, the hormone responsible for regulating mood, can help with just that! Try these serotonin-rich nutrients and foods:
- Omega-3: chia and flax seeds, and fatty fish, such as herring, salmon, and sardines
- Vitamin D: eggs, fatty fish, fish liver oil, and fortified foods, such as milk and orange juice
- Vitamin B6: bananas, carrots, green peas, lentils, spinach, and sweet potatoes
