Construction and Design Alliance of Ontario (CDAO) Report-Impacts of Pre-Project Investments & Quality of Documents

CDAO presented a recent report at their October 28th Procurement Day webinar dealing with the impact of document quality on the pre-planning of construction projects. The survey which canvassed owners, design consultants, GCs and subcontractors found that the design document quality issues are rooted in the inadequate time provided, inadequate fees, and inadequate information in the pre-project planning. The report concludes that evidence shows that improved design document quality would facilitate construction stakeholders leading to efficiencies, cost savings and better overall results.

20% of the survey respondents were subcontractors. The report, produced by the Metropolitan University of Toronto, was released in March 2022 and funded by several construction and design associations.
