HAPPENING SUNDAY
Pastor Trudy's Message
"Jesus Looked Up"
by Hannah Garrity
A Sanctified Art LLC | sanctifiedart.org
Have you climbed a tree lately? I'm guessing for most of us the answer is 'no'. Even if you are young enough and skilled enough to do it, we don't have a lot of good climbing trees around anymore. Our story for this week features a man climbing a tree to get a better view of Jesus. Now that is something we can domove ourselves around in order to get a different perspective on Jesus.

God of trees and new perspectives,  we try to align your words with the way we are living, to see you the way that makes it most comfortable for us. Thank you for loving us enough to keep challenging us to see and live in new ways. In Jesus' name, Amen

WONDERING...
REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GLC
What does the word vocation mean in our theme for this weekend and for us as Lutherans? We hear it in the world in terms of vocational schools those that put you on a track to a particular job. In Catholic churches, the word 'vocation' is used to describe people entering holy orders, becoming nuns and priests. We think about vocation as 'living out our baptismal call'. Whatever you are doing, that is THE place where you are living out the promises of your baptism. As a parent, friend, student, child in whatever you do for work, paid or unpaid in how you care for God's creation...that is where you shine Christ's love and THAT is YOUR VOCATION.
We surround with our prayers the family of Kraig and Debbie Mickelsen following the death of Kraig’s mom, Joni, on Thursday, August 27. A Celebration of Life will be livestreamed from Geneva Lutheran Church at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 5. For information about the Visitation and Private Service read Joanne Mickelsen's obituary.

St. Andrew Food Distribution
September 18/19 & October 23/24
Due to a tremendous increase in the number of families being served by the weekly food distributions (now in excess of 300), St. Andrew has partnered with People’s Resource Center, Wheaton, and Carnicerias Jimenez, West Chicago to supply/purchase all food needed for these distributions that will continue through the end of 2020. Support is still needed from area churches for volunteers and items not covered by government food assistance programs!
3 ways you can help:
  1. Sign up for a Friday night or Saturday morning volunteer slot on Sign Up Genius
  2. Donate diapers (any size), baby wipes (any) and/or feminine hygiene products (any type/size) via drop off at Geneva Lutheran on Sunday, September 13.
  3. Make a monetary donation to Geneva Lutheran’s St. Andrew Food Distribution Fund to help offset the purchase of these baby/personal care items.
Thank you for your continued generosity! Questions? Contact Julie Slifka
Thank-you note received
On behalf of the Salvation Army Tri-City Corps, we want to thank the parishioners of Geneva Lutheran Church for their generous donations to our food pantry. As you know, there has been a greater need this year because of COVID-19, and because of the kindness of your flock, many more people are being fed. Please pass on our heartfelt appreciation to them all for their generosity and hard work.
