In loving memory of Dr. Leon L. Haley Jr.
Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, MHSA, CPE, FACEP, CEO of UF Health Jacksonville, dean of the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville and vice president for health affairs at UF, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 24. Haley, 56, was regarded as a strong, inspirational leader and beloved son, father, friend and colleague.

Now Open: Social Services Hub and Food Pharmacy
June 4 was a special day at UF Health Jacksonville as Dr. Haley; Ann-Marie Knight, MHA, FACHE; and Ross E. Jones, MD, unveiled two new resources offered by the UF Health Urban Health Alliance during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Social Services Hub
The Social Services Hub is a support system between the clinical team and agencies for patients. Partner agencies involved in this effort focus on education, employment support, housing and more. Consultative space is available for patients and social service agencies to meet in person and virtually.
Food Pharmacy
A prescriptive nutrition care model provided by dietitians, the Food Pharmacy offers one-on-one counseling for patients who are food insecure and have diabetes, hypertension and other conditions. Patients can enjoy biweekly access to fresh food to improve their nutrition.

Russell E. Armistead, MBA, has broad experience in academic health center and medical school administration and is pleased to return to the UF Health Jacksonville CEO role, a position he previously held for four years until retiring in December 2017. He helped UF Health Jacksonville achieve key financial goals and plan for future growth.

Edwards named dean of UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville
As the first woman to hold the dean's position since the college was established, Linda Edwards, MD, is excited to work toward Dr. Haley's vision of excellence.
Edwards has been with the College of Medicine since 1985. Her contributions and accomplishments have made a significant impact on the organization. She was the senior associate dean for educational affairs, associate chair of the department of medicine, chief of the division of internal medicine and the medical director for the program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

UF Health Jacksonville receives third Magnet designation
The American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program has renewed UF Health Jacksonville's Magnet designation for the third time.
The program honors organizations where nursing leaders successfully implement strategic goals to improve patient outcomes. As of May 2021, only 8.9% of hospitals in the United States were Magnet designated.
UF Health Jacksonville recently received the designation in 2011 and 2016.

Yoho Memorial Golf Tournament tees up $8,000
The 18th Annual Jayce Yoho Memorial Golf Tournament raised $8,000 to support UF Health TraumaOne. In addition to honoring Jayce, a former patient, this year's event was played in memory of John Yoho, who passed away in 2019.

Costco location achieves fundraising milestone
Costco near the St. Johns Town Center reached $1 million in donations for CMN Hospitals since its opening in 2000. Jacksonville Costco locations have raised more than $175,000 this year to support pediatric equipment needs and local CMN Hospitals programming.

Jacksonville receives recognition in campaign
Ace Hardware stores raised more than $45,700 for CMN Hospitals, claiming the top fundraising market in the Southeast during the April campaign.

UF Health Jacksonville, Century Ambulance Service expand coverage
UF Health Jacksonville and Century Ambulance Service have combined efforts to expand coverage in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. The expansion adds two new critical care ground transport vehicles.
The service assists critically ill and injured patients being transferred from an accident to UF Health Jacksonville's trauma center or cardiac, neurological and advanced intensive care units.

Angiolillo appointed Chief of Cardiology
Dominick Angiolillo, MD, PhD, was named chief of the division of cardiology in the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville department of medicine. Angiolillo, who joined the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville in 2004, is also the medical director of the UF Health Cardiovascular Center.
In addition to his new role, he is a professor of medicine with tenure status, the director of cardiovascular research and the director of the interventional cardiology fellowship program.
In December 2020, Clarivate named Angiolillo one of the world's most influential researchers.
Angiolillo succeeds Theodore Bass, MD, who led the division of cardiology for 21 years.

Saving Claire
This Fall Prevention program empowers high-risk patients with the necessary steps to prevent falls during their hospital stay and discharge. The film is available for patients on the Wellness Network program schedule. It is also available on-demand within our UF Health Jacksonville network. Watch now!
Vaccine Education
These community sessions are a multifaceted effort designed to reach key demographics who have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. These discussions provide accessible locations to learn more about COVID-19 vaccinations as well as receive the vaccine. The next session is Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 1605 N. Myrtle Ave., starting at 9:30 a.m. Vaccinations will be available from 12:30 p.m. through 3:30 p.m.
While community engagement activities were mostly virtual over the past year, there are more face-to-face activities on the horizon. All decisions are based upon need, value and safety.

UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital is No. 1 in Florida, nationally ranked in eight medical specialties
The University of Florida Health Shands Children’s Hospital is in a tie for the No. 1 children’s hospital in Florida and stands among the nation’s elite pediatric hospitals in eight medical specialties, including a first-ever top 10 ranking in cardiology and a historically high ranking for pulmonology, according to the 2021-22 Best Children’s Hospital Rankings by U.S. News & World Report.
Every ranked medical specialty program improved its standing from last year and the eight ranked programs are the most for UF Health since 2016. The No. 7 ranking for pediatric cardiology punctuates 11 years among the nation’s top programs, including six consecutive years in the top 25.
