ANOTHER SCAM TARGETS WYOMING MEDICAID CLIENTS

In the past, Enroll Wyoming helped raised the alarm about fraudsters targeting Medicaid clients and asking for money to re-enroll. Now the Wyoming Department of Health is warning about a new scam and to be cautious with unexpected callers.

“A client reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from a department program that doesn’t actually exist. The caller was pushing medical equipment and aggressively asking for personal information,” Lee Grossman said.

A press release explained that while the WDH and legitimate department contractors may send out surveys, they do not seek money or ask for Medicaid or Social Security numbers or banking or credit card information. For more information, read the release or visit health.wyo.gov/healthcarefin/medicaid.

DEADLINE NEARS FOR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE AND SUPPLEMENTAL PLANS

The open enrollment period for supplemental plans and Medicare Advantage plans is available until March 31. After that, you must wait until the next period begins on Jan. 1, 2025. This is separate from Medicare D (prescription drug) general open enrollment period, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.

During the Medicare supplemental and Medicare Advantage open enrollment, you can choose to change your supplemental plan or enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, but you don't have to change if you are happy with what you have.

MARKETPLACE USERS MUST FILE EXTRA FORM 1095-A WITH TAXES

Now that tax filing season is underway for 2023 tax returns, here is a reminder about tax issues related to the health insurance marketplace.

-- Consumers who had marketplace health coverage at any point during 2023 must use Form 1095-A and reconcile their 2023 premium tax credit when they file their 2023 taxes if they used the premium tax credit to lower their monthly premiums.

Copies of form 1095-A should be mailed or accessible online. If people need assistance finding their form, they can contact an Enroll Wyoming navigator. For more detailed steps, consult the marketplace tax information page.
