FREE “Level One” Certi-Fire Training Tuition Limited-time Offer

With the continued support of Employment Ontario under the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD), Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario (ECAO) received a second round funding from the Provincial Skills Development Fund (SDF) for the Certi-Fire program to enhance its training capabilities in the fire alarm industry.

In Spring 2021, the Certi-Fire program received the first round of SDF funding to expand the courses in a COVID-19 friendly environment, by delivering programs online to accommodate “at-home-learning” for the “in-person-classroom” training. It was a great achievement for Certi-Fire!

The second round of SDF funding allows us to develop Virtual Reality (VR) Certi-Fire Lab Assessment; where a wearable device allows participants to learn to wire a fire panel, is currently under way.

Good news about this VR technology - we will be able to provide training in an innovative method that will eliminate the traditional need for large physical spaces and large capital investments. It will also resolve the indoor setting limitations and the geographical issues that were a barrier due to COVID-19.

ECAO is pleased to offer a limited, one time, opportunity for free LEVEL ONE Certi-Fire Training for IBEW members, and individuals who are 309A licensed electricians, or minimum third term apprentices with intermediate trade school. This promotion is on a first-come-first served basis, and applies to Level 1 only, within the given period of time. This free tuition offer will end on March 31, 2023 or until the seats are filled, whichever comes first.

*** Don’t miss this chance to become a Certi-Fire Fire Alarm Electrician who can provide one stop electrical services – install, test, verify, and maintain all fire alarm needs!!! ***

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at

2022 Profile Of The Electrical Contractor

Every two years, we reach out to you for our Profile of the Electrical Contractor. The 2022 edition occurs while the third year of supply-chain breakdowns instigated by the COVID-19 pandemic remains unresolved. Capturing a moment in your work life—like a sports trading card—our biennial survey asks you to tell us about your previous year’s business. So this profile covers 2021, a rollercoaster of vaccine-related hopefulness and slipping confidence in the economy compared to 2020, when ECs’ positivity reflected 2019’s boom. In the end, the story turns out to be relatively positive. You’re doing OK and can, therefore, put this year’s trading card in your album.

Curbing unsafe EV charger installations needs “carrot or stick” strategy

Electrical industry experts are brainstorming strategies to help address the issue of improper EV charger installations in Canada after 400 non-permitted EV chargers were discovered in Toronto.

The rise in electric vehicle purchases across Canada is setting the country in a more positive direction for combatting climate change, but it’s also revealed a troubling trend: cutting corners on EV charger installations.

“People are really adapting to the idea [of EVs] and they’re liking it. But we just want to make sure that everybody is properly trained,” says Chris Swick, executive director of NETCO in an interview with Electric Autonomy.

The three-day online program ends with an exam based on the Canadian electrical code.

Swick adds that the program is offered in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia and, soon, New Brunswick. Last year, through Ontario’s skills and development fund, NETCO was able to train over 400 electricians in the Can-EVITP.

America’s Inflation Reduction Act just gave Canada’s economy a shot in the arm

The Senate Democrats’ heroic rescue and rebranding of President Joe Biden’s proposed Build Back Better Act is ripped from the pages of a political thriller. Villainous-turned-virtuous coal barons, deft political misdirection, malicious foreign governments, and a guest appearance from the eponymous Larry Summers are featured in the resurrection of a bill thought long dead.
