June 2019
Dear Happy Hooves friends and family,

Do you know what happens when dedicated business leaders, an old worn out playground, and Helens Hugs get together at Eden Farms?  Tonka's Trail that's what!  Happy Hooves was truly blessed to be chosen by Leadership Greenville's Class of 45 to redo our 18 year old well loved, but worn out playground!  Thanks also to the commitment and generosity of Helens Hugs, our new playground has been a work in progress for months and is named after Helen Corontzes' horse Tonka. Leadership Greenville members have given up their time to brainstorm, design, and construct the new playground.  This great video tells the story of how it all came together (click here)!

This past Saturday was the Tonka's Trail Ribbon Cutting , which was an unforgettable and emotional day!  We were BLOWN AWAY by Leadership Greenville when they presented us with a check for $10,000 for equestrian therapy lessons!  The lives that are going to be touched by their fundraising efforts will have a long lasting and beneficial impact on special needs children, their families, and the community!

So many children have already been enjoying Tonka's Trail.  We can't wait for you to see all the brand new handicapped accessible equipment, the 3 slides, the sandbox, the huge picnic pavilion, a fantastic sensory integration fence that runs the length of the playground and picnic pavilion, and more! Think about how you feel when you can go outside and take time to relax, play, or simply visit with friends.  That time can help you clear your head, reconnect and refocus.  It is our hope for everyone who comes to Tonka's Trail feels welcome, wanted, and loved.

God bless you and keep you,
Becky Sweeney

We Wrapped Up Another Great Year of School at the Barn!

For the past 9 months, special needs classes and at risk youth from 8 different Upstate schools have come out once a month to enjoy a school day filled with therapeutic riding lessons, equine assisted learning, classroom time, and plenty of picnic and playground time! The children, school therapists, and teachers were all smiles and can't wait to come back for School at the Barn in the fall.

A huge thank you to Dabo's ALL IN TEAM Foundation, Helens Hugs, and Leadership Greenville's Class of 45 for doing so much to make days l ike this a success. You are making a long lasting impact in these children's lives!

What a Special Day at the 13th Annual Helen's Hugs 5K Run!

We were blessed with amazing weather, friendship, and so much fun. Tonka was an absolute star! Thank you to all of our Helens Hugs and Happy Hooves friends and family who made the day such a success. We cannot thank Helens Hugs enough for their continuous support of our therapeutic riding programs at Eden Farms!
Our 2019 Happy Hooves Charity Golf Tournament was a big success!

Thanks to all of the golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and Fox Run Country Club for supporting the 15th Annual Happy Hooves Golf Tournament! The weather was perfect, the company fabulous, the food delicious, and the day filled with fun!

Thanks to our 12 teams of golfers and all of our sponsors, we raised approximately $12,000 after expenses. A shout out to Golf Committee Chairman Mike Mason, for his ongoing su pport in leading another successful golf fundraising tournament for Happy Hooves.

Congratulations to all of our winning teams...we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

Friends of the Farm

We want to thank our most loyal supporters and make all donors and volunteers, new and old, feel appreciated! Your support is essential to our mission to enhance the lives of individuals in the Upstate of South Carolina through the power of the horse.

Happy Hooves is an all-volunteer organization. All funding comes from donations, fundraisers and grants. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, over 80% of our Happy Hooves riders are able to receive therapeutic riding at no charge.

Happy Hooves currently serves nearly 160 children in the Upstate each year through therapeutic riding lessons, summer fun programs and School at the Barn.

School at the Barn has 570 therapy lessons and 570 Equine Assisted Learning lessons each year. Summer camp has 135 therapy lessons; and we have 400 individual therapy lessons for a total of 1675 lessons per year.

The therapeutic riding programs require an average of 40 trained volunteers each week, and run year round, with each volunteer working an average of 3 hours per week.

Eden Farms, home of Happy Hooves, is a beautiful 170-acre property with three arenas, a 40-stall barn that currently houses 30 horses; 13 boarders and 17 therapy horses. There is a handicapped accessible playground on the grounds, along with a sensory riding trail with man-made activity stations.

We once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support and your donations. We couldn't help so many special needs children and adults, and at-risk children and teens, without you!

Did You Know?

Happy Hooves has been a PATH International Premier Accredited Center since 2005. In fact, we are one of only six Premier Accredited Centers in South Carolina, and the only one in the Upstate. This accreditation is a rigorous process requiring centers to meet stringent requirements for staff, facilities, and programs. A program must be re-accredited every five years.

Your contribution helps special needs children and adults, as well as at-risk children and teens.
Happy Hooves is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
