Our mission is to enhance the lives of individuals in the Upstate of South Carolina through the power of the horse.
February 2019
Hello Happy Hooves friends and family,

Did your child ride a "reindeer" this Christmas? Happy Hooves' annual Fundraiser Christmas at the Barn  was a success! Thank you to everyone who helped to make this fundraiser a success! We were able to raise over $5,000 for  our non-profit therapeutic riding program.  If you missed this year's photos, please click here.

Also, are you a Clemson Fan? Happy Hooves is!  Dabo and Kathleen Swinney's ALL IN TEAM Foundation has generously supported Happy Hooves for the past 5 years.  Thanks to their generosity, many special needs school children and at risk youth have been able to participate in our School at the Barn program.  One of the special needs classes from Pickens Elementary sent Dabo a heartwarming video to wish The Clemson Tigers the best of luck in the National Championships! Be sure watch their sweet message!  PS: Buddee our therapy horse is also in it!

We hope to see you out at Eden Farms soon. Spring is just around the corner, I promise!

God bless you and keep you,
Becky Sweeney

Miracle Hill Children's Home Visits Happy Hooves!

During the Christmas holiday, Happy Hooves was excited to have the opportunity to welcome 4 terrific young ladies from the Miracle Hill Children's Home in Pickens to participate in a specifically designed equine education curriculum. The participants were selected by Miracle Hill based on information they knew about their residents and any interest they have expressed in the past concerning horses.

As a result we built a 2-hour session for 3 consecutive days that covered everything from Western and English riding, equine anatomy, care, grooming, tacking and even some hands on medical practices.

This was a special time for these young ladies to be outside, build bonds, try something new, and make new friends. What they learned with the horses and barn staff at Eden Farms can help them in their everyday life: relationship building, trust, teamwork, persistence, and dedication.

At the conclusion of the program, each participant received a framed and personalized certificate of achievement as well as their own Happy Hooves bag.  In the end, the participants, horses and volunteers had a wonderful time working together.  We hope there might be additional opportunities to partner with Miracle Hill in the near future!

Gifts for the Barn!

Below are photos of some of the wonderful equipment our donations from the Giving Tree at Wines & Equines funded for us (Photo #1: 4 western foam saddle pads, 3 girth straps, 4 riding elements, 4 lead ropes - we are still waiting on 4 sets of rainbow colored reins). Photo #2:  new nylon and leather saddle. Finally the last photo is a little present that Santa's elves left for the horses (or maybe the volunteers as well) - all new grooming buckets and equipment. A big thank you to our Giving Tree donors and to our Secret Santa!

Friends of the Farm

As we reflect on 2018, it's time to thank our most loyal supporters and make all donors and volunteers, new and old, feel appreciated! Your support is essential to our mission to enhance the lives of individuals in the Upstate of South Carolina through the power of the horse.

In case you didn't know, Happy Hooves is an all-volunteer organization, and all funding comes from donations, fundraisers and grants. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, over 80% of our Happy Hooves riders are able to receive therapeutic riding at no charge.

Happy Hooves currently serves nearly 160 Pickens County children each year through therapeutic riding lessons, summer fun programs and School at the Barn.

School at the Barn has 570 therapy lessons and 570 Equine Assisted Learning lessons each year. Summer camp has 135 therapy lessons; and we have 400 individual therapy lessons for a total of 1675 lessons per year.

The therapeutic riding programs require an average of 40 trained volunteers each week, and run year round, with each volunteer working an average of 3 hours per week.

In addition to regular volunteers, Happy Hooves has additional groups that help more on a one-time basis for fund raising events and "work days". These include Key Clubs, college organizations, homeschool organizations, high school BETA groups, church youth groups, etc.

Eden Farms, home of Happy Hooves, is a beautiful 170-acre property with three arenas, a 40-stall barn that currently houses 30 horses; 13 borders and 17 therapy horses. There is a handicapped accessible playground on the grounds, along with a sensory riding trail with man-made activity stations.

We once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support and your donations. We couldn't help so many special needs children and adults, as well as at-risk children and teens, without you!

Did You Know?

Happy Hooves has been a PATH International Premier Accredited Center since 2005. In fact, we are one of only six Premier Accredited Centers in South Carolina, and the only one in the Upstate. This accreditation is a rigorous process requiring centers to meet stringent requirements for staff, facilities, and programs. A program must be re-accredited every five years.

Your contribution helps special needs children and adults, as well as at-risk children and teens.
Happy Hooves is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
