HAVEN E-NEWS | MAY 3, 2020

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4 - May 8. Under normal circumstances we would have an entire week of food, treats and other amazing ways to say thank you to teachers and staff for all of their hard work throughout the year. Now we find ourselves in not normal circumstances and are asking for your help to let them know how much we appreciate them. Below is a list of ideas that you and your child(ren) can do at home very quickly to make next week a success. Please help us in getting a digital message to our teachers a few times over the course of this week so they know we are thinking of them.
  • Have students write a quick note on Google classroom when they sign in each day.
  • Have students hold up a sign that says "I appreciate you"  or "thank you" in place of their face during Google Meet office hours.
  • Have them change their profile picture to the sign they made for that week.
  • Have students take a photo in front of Haven with their sign and send that in.
  • Make a quick video. Write a poem. Sing a song.
  • Parents--send an email to teachers letting them know you appreciate them. Post a message on social media.
In the Fall, we will shower them with breakfast, lunch and treats when school resumes.

THANK YOU!

District 65 Needs Survey - if your family is in need of assistance and you haven't already completed the district's needs survey, please complete ASAP.

PTA Equity Project Fund -  The PTA Equity Project (PEP) is excited to announce that the PEP Fund will be available to help serve families/caregivers in our D65 community who have been most greatly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Recognizing the disparity of private fundraising ability among our schools, PTAs across District 65 have collaborated to generously donate significant portions of their funds to the PEP Fund. The PEP Fund has already been put to good use, partnering with the Evanston Community Foundation and Foundation 65 to provide 200 ChromeBooks to District 65 students who need technology to access remote learning during this prolonged school closure.

Because we cannot predict how long this crisis will last or how devastating its effects will be, we need your help to ensure that we can continue to fund this effort and support our families. We know there are significant needs for our families who are experiencing homelessness and increasing needs for many of our families related to food insecurity.

Your tax-deductible donation will be used to ensure that every school has equitable access to funds that principals and school staff can quickly, efficiently, and confidentially distribute to families in need. In addition, the Evanston Community Foundation, which houses the PEP Fund, has generously agreed to waive its usual administration fee so that all the money we raise during this crisis can go directly to supporting families. To donate, please visit the Evanston Community Foundation's donor page at https://evanstonforever.org/giving/give-now and check the box to apply your gift to the PTA Equity Project Fund.
We know this is an unsettling and overwhelming time, and hearing about the struggles of our neighbors and school friends can be heartbreaking. Our strength is in our community, and PEP strongly believes that collectively, we can make a real difference in helping our families and students through this unprecedented crisis.
