Come to the 2019 Haverford Home & Garden Show!
We are excited to announce the 2nd annual Haverford Home & Garden Show which will be held on May 18-19th, 2019 at Haverford Reserve in Haverford, PA. 

We will be having a ticketed Preview Night Party from 5:00-9:00pm on Saturday, where all indoor vendors will be set up, and we will have food and drink samples, live music, etc. The hours on Sunday will be 10:00am - 4:00pm.

The show will include 75+ vendors representing a variety of businesses such as general contractors, architects, interior designers, arborists, plumbers, electricians, roofers, painters, lawn care providers, realtors, financial services such as banks, phone and internet services, and businesses that sell home improvement, gardening or landscaping products.

There will also be a marketplace where vendors will sell home and garden items such as garden tools, bird houses and bird feeders, fine art, plants, and gift items. We will also have several food trucks/vendors at the event on Sunday.

HGTV and DIY Network star Jeff Devlin will be our keynote speaker. Throughout the day, a variety of other presentations will be scheduled.  

Make & Take projects will be offered for visitors who want a hands-on experience. Mostardi Nursery is sponsoring a Create your own Terrarium or Succulent Garden make & take project. There will also be a children’s craft booth.

We will host our popular “Furniture Flip Contest” again this year, sponsored by DMI Home Supply & Rental Center. Register by May 1st to participate. We will also organize a raffle of door prizes.

Part-time Project Coordinator Hired
HPED welcomes Amy Sweeney as our new part-time Project Coordinator. Amy will work ten hours per week and assist with office management, membership, greening projects, event coordination, and marketing.

Amy has a communications degree from Villanova University and a background in catering and events management. She lives in Merwood Park with her husband and four young sons.
Gina Ranieri and Bill Wechsler join HPED Board
HPED is pleased to announce two new board members!

Gina Ranieri is co-owner of Ranieri and Kerns Associates Construction Company, one of HPED's Platinum Sponsors.

Gina grew up in Haverford Township and has been an active volunteer with Haverford Green, HPED greening projects, and planters at HMS.
Bill Wechsler is Township Commissioner for the 9th Ward, and the Township Representative to the HPED Board.

Bill has a background in engineering and telecommunications. He has lived in the Township for 30 years, where he and his wide raised four children. He is a firefighter and EMT for the Manoa Fire Company.
Welcome to Bead Garden's New Owner
HPED welcomes The Bead Garden's new owner Tina Freels! Tina took ownership in January 2019 and has renovated the store, which is located at 2122 East Darby Road, into a welcoming space designed to spark creativity.

Growing up in Havertown and being a current resident of the Chatham Village neighborhood, Tina couldn’t imagine a better place to live and work. “The community is just so friendly and welcoming,” she explains.

Tina has a passion for beading that was started by her mother-in-law. After she spent time in retail management and as a pastry chef, Tina began teaching classes at The Bead Garden, where she spent a lot of time and made many friends. When she heard that the previous owner was going to close the store, Tina very quickly stepped in to purchase the business because "there was a core group of dedicated beaders that would be devastated if the store wasn’t there.”

In addition to selling beads and jewelry, The Bead Garden also offers jewelry repair services and hosts and array of classes, summer camps, birthday parties and baby showers. Recently, they even held a gender reveal party. In the near future, they plan to start ladies night out events. The store’s knowledgeable and friendly staff, which includes an expert pearl knotter, is always on hand to offer help and guidance with your custom jewelry design.

HPED would like to thank two board members who have recently retired.

Brendan Goggin, former owner of Oakmont Pub, was HPED's first President. His warmth, ease in working with others and his passion for Haverford Township served him well as he led HPED in it's formative years. His background in website design and technology was also invaluable as chair of the communications committee.


Mario Oliva was the driving force in forging an effective partnership between HPED and the Township. He has been a very active board member, serving on the Home & Garden Show committee, heading streetscape initiatives, and assisting with planting work days.
Library Offers Workshop on "Why Small Business Ownership?"
In this workshop you will begin to view business ownership as a possible career alternative. It is a process of analyzing how to view a business opportunity. Learning that liking a product or service does not necessarily mean you are a match to the business model. AS you analyze your skills, you will be able to determine if business ownership is a right fit for you. You will begin to uncover the kinds of businesses that fit your desired income, lifestyle, wealth and equity.

Presented in partnership with SCORE of Chester and Delaware Counties.

Senior Citizen Discount Day
Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED), in conjunction with the Township's Senior Citizen Advisory Board, is creating a Senior Citizen Discount Day. Seniors aged 65 and older are eligible for the discount, which will be 10% off on Tuesdays.

Participating businesses can be stores, restaurants or services (hair salon, car wash, bowling, oil change, etc.).

NOTE: Businesses must have publicly advertised prices (not services that provide estimates for each job individually).

Businesses that register here will be listed in a brochure that seniors can use for shopping and dining in the Township. The brochure will be posted on the Discover Haverford website, on Facebook, and printed for distribution at participating business. It will be updated periodically to allow businesses to join or leave the program. HPED will advertise the program throughout the community.

Businesses will benefit by drawing in new customers on a day which is traditionally slower than other days of the week.
HPED Bids Farewell to Township Leaders
HPED thanks Township Manager Larry Gentile for his excellent work. During his tenure, an amazing transformation has occurred in our Township.  

The impact of several huge development projects: Haverford Reserve, the YMCA, the Quarry Center, and the new Township Building cannot be overstated.  He sought and received numerous State grants to revitalize many of our older business districts with new lighting and sidewalks, as well as improvements to our municipal parking lots. He also initiated several gardens along Darby Road and West Chester Pike that really brighten up the Township, and you have supported other initiatives, such as the Tree Tenders and Rain Garden and Haverford Green programs.

Finally, he was instrumental in HPED’s partnership with the Township and in the success of our work over the past several years. His support for our projects to improve our public spaces – the planters, gardens, signage, fountains, and most recently the walkway has been much appreciated.  

Richard "Doc" Dougherty's support as Director of Public Works has been invaluable with many HPED projects over the years, including placing over 90 planters in business districts, building the raised gardens on the medians of Darby Road, picking up and delivering materials, and installing benches, trash cans, and signs. Throughout all of these projects, Doc has been a pleasure to work with.

What is HPED?
