HPED Intern develops Restaurant Guide
for Haverford College
|
One of the projects Ricky Sanchez, our summer intern from Haverford College, worked on was outreach to the Haverford College community.
"We are looking for ways to build a stronger connection to the College," explains Business Development Manager Jeanne Angell. "A guide to the restaurants closest to campus makes great sense. I don't think Haverford students realize what we have to offer, so they are in some ways an untapped customer base."
Ricky worked on a 2-sided guide to restaurants that are within two miles of campus. It includes a short description of the restaurants, a map, and information about public transportation within the Township. The guide will be placed in Haverford freshman packets in August, placed in on-campus guest rooms, and be available at various locations at the college.
HPED plans to create a similar guide this fall which will include all restaurants in the Township. This Restaurant Guide will be available on-line and will be sent to realtors, neighborhood civic associations and Township commissioners for new neighbor welcome packets. All restaurants in the Township will be listed, with HPED members highlighted in each category.

Grants Available to Small Businesses
for Energy Efficiency or Pollution Prevention
|
|
The following two programs provide great financial assistance to small companies looking to increase their energy efficiency or install pollution prevention measures. The grant program is only available for a limited time, but both can be used on one project.
DEP (Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection) has opened their
Small Business Advantage Grant Program. This program provides up to 50% of eligible project cost or a maximum of $9,500 for qualified applicants. Eligible applicants are small businesses in Pennsylvania with 100 or fewer employees. The project must reduce energy consumption or prevent pollution according to the DEP guidelines. These funds do go quickly, so apply early.
Full program information and application are available here:
The above grant program can be used in conjunction with DCED's (Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development)
Pollution Prevention Assistance Account Loan Program under PIDA. This loan program has a reduced interest rate at 2% for up to 10 years if closed before December 31, 2017. Only available to employers with 100 or less employees, it will lend up to 75% of the project cost up to $100,000. Projects must have demonstrative ability to prevent pollution or increase energy efficiency.
Full program information and application are available here:
The Small Business Advantage Grant is a direct-to-DEP application. The Pollution Prevention Assistance Account Loan program is administered locally through the Delaware County Commerce Center. If interested, please contact their Director of Finance, Bob Leitzell at (610) 566-2225.
