Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED) announces the
2017 Holiday Window Display Contest
. A panel of judges has been assembled who will observe store window displays and facades in Haverford Township from Monday, December 11th through Thursday, December 14th.
This year businesses will have to register to be considered for awards
. This is a change from previous years when judges viewed all displays within the township. To register for the competition a business must inform the HPED by signing up at the HPED website at www.hped.org or via e-mail at donaldkelly@aol.com . The deadline to register is Friday, December 8th.
As previously, there will be five categories:
- Most Beautiful Window Display
- Most Creative Window Display
- Most Effective Marketing Window Display
- Most Whimsical Window Display
- Most Beautiful Building Façade
Certificates of recognition will be awarded to first and second place winners. When the 10 winners are announced on December 18th their displays will be photographed and placed on the HPED website to allow the public to vote on-line for the overall “People’s Choice Award”. On-line voting for the People’s Choice will be at the HPED website at www.hped.org from December 21-31st.
Last year the first place winner in the Most Beautiful Window category was Lizelle’s Bridal Boutique. Testa’s Bakery won first place for Most Whimsical Window. The first place award for Most Effective Marketing Window was won by Clair Pruitt Photography. Charles Gans Plumbing, Heating and Cooling won in the Most Creative Window category. Centrella’s Deli repeated as first place winner in the Most Beautiful Facade category. The People’s Choice winner was Jon Laurie Salon.
Judging panel member, Rudy Miller, encourages businesses to sign up for the competition. "Since the Holiday Window Display Contest started several years ago, we have noticed that local businesses have upped their decorating game. As a result, the township is becoming increasingly more festive during the holiday season. It's been great to see more and more businesses doing lovely displays of lights and wreaths and trimmings and other holiday themes."
So have some fun! Get Creative! Join in the spirit of the holidays by registering your business now to be the most beautiful holiday window in Haverford Township this Holiday Season.

Haverford Home & Garden Show
10% off before January 1st

The inaugural Haverford Home & Garden Show, held at Haverford Reserve on Sunday, April 15th from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm will be a way to connect local businesses and residents at a fun community event, as well as to raise funds for the work of HPED. The show will allow us to serve a unique and significant sector of Haverford Township Businesses. We know residents want to support local businesses, and we want to provide an opportunity for customers and businesses to connect face-to-face.
HPED’s Home & Garden Show Committee will be working to create a show with a variety of vendor and marketplace booths that fit the theme of the show. We have already started receiving applications for booth space, and we will limit the number of each type of vendor at the show to ensure a wide range of products and services at the show. Requests for booth space will be reviewed and granted by the committee.
HPED business members will receive a discount on booth space, and there is an early bird discount for applications received before 12/31.
Vendor spots were first be offered Haverford Township businesses, but we are now offering booth space to other regional businesses.
The Show will include a variety of vendors such as general contractors, plumbers, electricians, roofers, painters, lawn care providers, architects, interior designers, realtors, financial services such as banks, insurance companies, phone and internet services, and businesses that sell home improvement, gardening or landscaping products.
There will be a marketplace where vendors can sell home and garden items such as garden tools, bird houses and bird feeders, fine art, plants, pillows and table linens, candles, antiques and gift items. Throughout the day, a variety of presentations and classes will be scheduled on topics such as curb appeal, downsizing, container gardening, interior decorating, historic preservation, and green-friendly remodeling. Make & Take workshops will be offered for visitors who want a hands-on experience. Projects might include creating a terrarium, rewiring a lamp, making a wreath, canning or grilling techniques, or making a painting to take home.
