HPED Receives Grant from
Philadelphia Contributionship
|
|
HPED is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant for $7,000 from the Philadelphia Contributionship. This grant was facilitated by 5th Ward Commissioner Andy Lewis, who also serves on the Economic Development Committee of the Board of Commissioners. Thank you to Commissioner Lewis for your support of the business community!
This is the fourth grant that HPED has received in the past year. We received two grants from the Haverford Township Civic Council for beautification in business districts from proceeds from the Haverford Music Festival. The first grant supported the planters in the Edgewood and Llanerch business districts. The second will help to fund a fountain in the Triangle Garden in Oakmont. We also received a grant from the MKM Foundation last spring.

Free Rain Gardens for Businesses
|
|
|
The Hav-a-Rain Garden program is seeking property owners willing to help us to demonstrate rain gardens at businesses and multifamily dwellings within the Naylor’s Run watershed. Your property within the area roughly from the old Oakmont School to Manoa Shopping Center to the Llanerch Country Club to the Llanerch Diner may qualify. This includes most of the Eagle Road, Darby Road, and West Chester Pike business corridors.
The Hav-a-Rain Garden program has built Rain Gardens for the last 2 years at no cost to homeowners, including this one at a combined business/residence on Darby Road. Before/After on Darby Road – Look for our Rain Garden signs showing improved landscape 1 year later and doing yeoman work keeping stormwater on-site.
Our partner, Darby Creek Valley Association (
www.dcva.org), received a grant that will allow us to demonstrate rain gardens at qualifying businesses and multifamily dwellings within the Naylor’s Run watershed. Our team will assess your property to see if storm water currently running off into streets and streams can be redirected into a beautiful rain garden. We provide plants, tools and volunteers and ask for an in-kind contribution of time or materials and the placement of a small educational sign. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can provide a small donation or contribute your landscaper’s time. In return, you will receive a beautiful rain garden worth several thousand dollars.
Ask for a Rain Garden: Contact us at
havaraingarden@gmail.com to ask for a garden, sign up to learn more at workshops and plantings, or learn how to become a business sponsor and gain recognition as a community partner. Visit
www.facebook.com/haverfordraingardens for more information.
Adopt a Rain Garden: Businesses can also “Adopt a Rain Garden” - maintain a public garden or become Hav-a-Rain Garden sponsors. Email us to learn more.

Renee James Boutique
adds Unique Style to Oakmont
|
|
Welcome to Renee James Boutique, which opened in November at 10 E. Eagle Road in Oakmont Village. Store owner Renee Giacometti grew up in Scranton but has lived with her husband James in the Manoa section of Havertown since 2004.
Renee launched the Boutique after a career as a registered nurse and years of thinking and dreaming about the idea. "I became increasingly interested in fashion over the past 20 years," explained Renee, "and when I turned 53 last year I thought 'It is now or never!'"
Her vision was to create a small boutique with cute, classic, and comfortable clothes at an affordable price, and to offer a personal experience for shoppers.
Renee points out that "they say when you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work, and that has been the case for me. It has been so much fun setting up the shop and meeting people in the community."
The boutique will be hosting a Ladies Night Out on February 9th from 6:00-9:00 pm. In addition to 10% off the entire store, there will be food and drink, representatives from Lipscense and Rodan & Fields, and a raffle. Take this opportunity to meet Renee and to welcome a new business to the Township!

L'Angolo West hosts First Wednesday Dining Club
|
|
|
The First Wednesday Dining Club had a great time at L'Angolo West last week! The food and company were A++!
The successful club is now in its third year, and boasts a mailing list of close to 100! HPED arranges a prix fix dinner at a Haverford Township restaurant for 25-40 residents with 2-3 selections as well as a chance to meet the owner or chef during the dinner. It is a great way to try new restaurants, support local businesses, and build a sense of community.
For more information, contact HPED Board Vice President and Club organizer
Donald Kelly.
