Haverford Business Developments
November 2016
|
|
Dear Business Supporter,
Welcome to the first issue of
Haverford Business Developments
, a newsletter from the Haverford Partnership for Economic Development. HPED has been working on behalf of our business districts since its inception in 2010. From business district beautification projects to business networking events, from public information sessions on new development to presentations to the Board of Commissioners to request project funding, our goals have been the same - to foster the development, breadth and growth of our business districts while maintaining and enhancing the inherent charm of our community.
Our partnership with Haverford Township – both their financial support and their collaboration -- has been integral this year, and we are excited about what we can accomplish together. We will be working closely with the Economic Development Committee of the Board of Commissioners to create a five-year plan for economic growth in the Township.
Read on to hear about recent projects, upcoming events, and our plans for the future.
We need participation and support from both businesses and residents. I hope you join us in our efforts to make Haverford Township the best it can be! If you haven't become a member yet, click on the link below to download our membership form. You can mail it in or bring it to our Annual Meeting tomorrow night. I hope to see you there!

|
We are pleased to announce that with financial support from Haverford Township, we have hired our former board member Jeanne Angell to serve as part-time Business Development Manager of HPED.
Jeanne has a professional background in non-profit management but also brings experience in horticulture, volunteer coordination, project management, communications and fundraising. She is very active in the civic life of Haverford Township. She managed the Llanerch Crossing Park project and she currently she runs the Haverford Township Tree Tenders program and is the Vice President of the Haverford Township Civic Council.
This fall she has been coordinating beautification projects in our business districts and gateways. She is also developing a business recruitment package, designing a Discover Haverford website, and developing a Shop Local Campaign.

Beautification Efforts Brighten Several Business Districts and Train Stations
The Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED) and it's initiative Haverford in Bloom have been busy this year! Have you noticed the new planters and gardens around town? With support from Haverford Township, Haverford Township Civic Council, Haverford Township Rotary, the MKM Foundation, and donations from businesses, we are transforming the look of our community!
A special thank you to Jane Hall, Gina Ranieri, Kim Kusumoto, and Kevin Olsavsky who took leadership roles, and to the following volunteers who helped with planting, weeding and watering: Mark Anderson, Colette Bannan, Richard Crowley, Christine Faris, Lisa Gaumann, Lisa Mandell, Jeff Miller, Kevin Momenee, Mario and Lisa Oliva, Ruth Rosenberg, David and Gail Schneck, and Jay Sheinfield.
Wait 'til you see what we have planned next!

Our October 27th workshop
Intro to New Media Marketing which featured FitTribe's Jesse Davis was very well received. Tuscany Cafe Brings a Touch of Europe to Havertown
|
HPED offers a warm welcome to Tuscany Cafe which opened this past spring at 803 West Chester Pike in Havertown. The Guven family, owners of the Cafe, moved to the United States 16 years ago from Bulgaria.
Dessi and her brother Tony operate a very successful cafe with the same name in Center City on Broad Street. "As residents of Broomall, we are excited about opening a second restaurant closer to home, " explains Dessi.
The bright and cheerful cafe currently serves breakfast and lunch. In addition to La Columbe coffee, they specialize in omelets, french toast, sandwiches and salads. Dessi's mother makes most of the fresh pastries and desserts.
The Cafe has only been open a few months, but already has received terrific reviews for food and service, so give this new family-run restaurant a try! They plan to open for dinner a few nights each week at some point in 2017.
