HPED Welcomes Rick's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling
HPED would like to introduce Rick’s Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling, located at 1213 Darby Road, to Haverford Township. Owner Rick Kalinowski was born in Clifton Heights and has been a resident of Delaware County his whole life. He opened his own business in 2005, originally working out of his home in Haverford and in an office in Northern Liberties. He plans to move his new home base by the end of September. “Havertown seemed the right place to locate my business,” explains Rick. “I regularly attend events here and I really like the area. I plan on being active within the community as a business owner.”

Rick’s prides himself on his policy is that customers come first. Unique to his customer service model, is the plan to offer seminars to customers at his new location, allowing them some autonomy in their household repairs. Oakmont South Business District Improvements
The Oakmont South business district will be the site of major streetscape improvements this year. New sidewalks, lighting, garden beds and trees will be added along Darby Road between Brick & Brew and Wagner Real Estate this fall.

These improvements were initiated by HPED, who encouraged the Township to apply for DCED funding for the area.

In addition, the Township is nearly finished with a major renovation of the Oakmont South Parking Lot.
2020 DEP Small Business Advantage Grant

The Pennsylvania DEP's Small Business Advantage Grant program is now open and accepting applications. The Small Business Advantage Grant (SBAG) is a grant program providing 50 percent matching grants, up to a maximum of $7,000, to enable a Pennsylvania small business to adopt or acquire energy efficient or pollution prevention equipment or processes. Well-designed energy efficient or pollution prevention projects can help small businesses cut costs and reduce the risk of regulatory issues, while simultaneously protecting the environment.

Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Energy efficient lighting,
  • High efficiency furnaces, boilers and air conditioners,
  • Energy efficient refrigeration systems,
  • Waste recycling systems,
  • Solvent recovery systems,
  • Riparian buffer plantings, streamside exclusionary fencing, and barnyard runoff controls.

Applications are reviewed and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pennsylvania businesses with fewer than 100 full-time employees are eligible to apply. Applicants must be for-profit entities located in Pennsylvania and registered with the PA Department of State. Eligible projects must save the applicant a minimum of $500 annually and save operating costs by a minimum of 25%. Applications will be accepted for small businesses to implement solar thermal (hot water) projects. Solar hot water systems must function to serve the hot water needs of the small business. Solar projects generating electricity (PV) are not eligible.
