Minister's Moment

Living a principle-based life, while also seeking joy, humor, fun, excitement and adventure, are not incompatible aspirations. A principle-based life is one that is lived in awareness and experience of Universal Principles and Laws. These Divine Truths serve to build our consciousness and govern the unfolding form that manifests in our lives. This idea can seem very serious and complicated. However, the Truth is that we only see it that way because we are conditioned to think of spirituality as something serious and morose. It is serious, but it can also fun. For example, one of the most healing things that occurs at funerals or memorial services is the sharing of intimate and often funny stories about the deceased. When tastefully done, this form of release can lift the the pallor that is often present in these circumstances. As a result of this cathartic process, we can laugh even in the face of loss. This form of spiritual practice is powerful. As the writer and humorist Mark Twain once wrote, “The human race has only one really effective weapon, and that is laughter. The moment it arises, all our hardness yields, all our irritations and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place.” So, take it from Mr. Twain, and have fun as you walk your spiritual path. It will change the way you approach your life.
