February 2024 Hotel Performance

The state had a 3.8 percentage point increase in occupancy and a 4.0 % decrease in ADR resulting in an 0.8% increase in RevPAR compared to last February. RevPAR was up 14% on Oahu, down 13% on Maui, up 2% on Hawaii Island and up 9% on Kauai. All islands experienced an increase in ADR except for Maui which had a 17% decline.

Visitor Arrivals

The state saw a 2.5% increase in visitors in February 2024 over last February. Oahu led the charge with a 10% increase, Kauai had an 8% increase, Hawaii Island had a 6% increase which together offset Maui’s 18% decrease. There were twice as many Japanese visitors as last February. Total visitor days was flat because of the growth in Japanese visitors and the drop in domestic visitors. In February the average Japanese stayed 6 days versus the American average of 9 days.

Visitor Expenditures

Visitor expenditures were up 1% and so was per person per day spending. By island, Maui was down 18%, Oahu up 9%, Kauai up 15% and Hawaii Island up 12%.

Air Seats

The outlook for air seats for the State improved in the last month. The April to June 2024 period is up 4% overall compared to the same period last year. As expected, Maui is way down while Japan and Canada have pushed international seats up 22%.
