When local governments are run exclusively by self-serving, big government, socially progressive politicians, you're bound to encounter bizarre policies and practices usually reserved for third world banana republics.  So why should Hawaii be any different?  Well, it's not.

And we're finding this out the hard way, every single day . . .

Incompetence Alert:  "We didn't anticipate the gridlock that was going to happen," said Governor Ige's deputy director for the state's highways division Ed Sniffen.  That's pretty scary thinking from someone whose job it is to make traffic flow smoothly.  Gosh, Mr. Sniffen, how exactly do you figure that the same amount of traffic stuffed into fewer lanes possibly move more slowly?  No traffic expert in the world could have predicted that!!  By Hawaii government standards, Mr. Sniffen is in line for a promotion.

Hawaii's pothole-blighted roads and low capacity highways are operated like a banana republic in the 3rd world.  "No, we don't keep spare parts on hand for the ZipMobiles even though we're on an island in the middle of the ocean."  "No, we never bothered to perform routine maintenance to see if all two ZipMobile's are in working condition."  "Yes, we are willing to violate DOT protocol to find the easiest solution."  "We will have to fly someone in from the mainland who can bring us a spare part."

What's really frightening is that these are the exact same transportation 'experts' who will be in charge of keeping the absurdly expensive, above-ground rail transit system operating.  While both common sense and the recent "carmageddon" experience on H-1 tells us that we need more lanes, not useless trains.  We cannot possibly feel confident enough to sit back and trust these bureaucrats with a $6 billion, 20-mile rail system.

$892 tab at a Honolulu hostess bar?  Check!  $1,200 surfboard?  Check!  $1,900 bicycle?  Check.  Excuse that he didn't know it was illegal to use his Government Credit Card for personal purchases?  PRICELESS!!

Now, $26,000 in illegal purchases later, Hawaii's crooked Democrat mayor and political rising star Billy Kenoi seems poised for re-election and a shot at the governorship with his raised profile lately.  In a banana republic, voters and the media really respect a guy with lust for life and the gaul to leverage his public office and authority to the fullest.  Even better is Kenoi's ability to keep this scandal under wraps for so long; actively making illegal purchases since 2009, refusing to let the press see the credit card statements after rumors surfaced; directing government underlings help to cover his tracks and protect his hide, employing staffers who allowed the transactions to go through and keep a lid on the corruption afterward.

"Personal goods and services, liquor and entertainment" are among the prohibited uses of the purchasing card.  So naturally, Billy Kenoi was determined to spend tens of thousands of dollars on prohibited items to demonstrate his Manuel Noriega-like defiance.  And since the government credit card was never, ever supposed to be used except for official business, a third world politician like Panama Billy should be credited for only using 50% of the money for himself on personal purchases.  That's real restraint for a banana republic leader.  After all, Kenoi claims that he doesn't even have a personal credit card of his own.  If Kenoi can get re-elected as mayor or even move on to higher office, then Hawaii's Democrats will have proven that nothing matters except name recognition, raising more money than the political opponent, and having an opposition political party which is content to do nothing but maintain an expensive headquarters and do absolutely little else but preserve its hold on that Kapiolani Boulevard white elephant.

Despite Hawaii's remoteness, our shocking and bizarre third world policies really put the People's Republic of Hawaii on the map:  Scientific experimentation on the living and the soon-to-be-dead.

The mainland headline screams out:  "University of Hawaii Recruits 14-Year-Olds for Grisly Late-Term Abortion Experiments," by Cheryl Sullenger, Life News, March 31, 2015.

The University of Hawaii is recruiting patients as young as 14 for second-trimester abortions to determine "how much they bleed" during the procedure. The controversial study is already underway at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu, led by Bliss Kaneshiro, MD and Kate Whitehouse, DO.

In the randomized trial, researchers experiment by either providing or denying intravenous oxytocin to abortion patients. Oxytocin is commonly used to minimize blood loss and decrease the risk of hemorrhage. However, some doctors are concerned that denying oxytocin during surgery may put patients, especially teen girls, at risk.

"This study is reminiscent of Nazi concentration camp experiments.  Dr. Mengele would be proud.  I pity the poor women who are being treated like lab rats, especially those who are denied the drug to reduce hemorrhaging," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. "I have read too many autopsy reports of women who bled to death during abortions to think this is anything but immoral and ghoulish."

The abortion study is entitled "Effects of Oxytocin on Bleeding Outcomes During Dilation and Evacuation."  Abortion patients must be from 18-24 weeks gestation and from 14-50 years old.  Researchers will measure how much each patient bleeds during her abortion, based on whether or not intravenous oxytocin is provided to her.

What else do you expect with Democrats running our town and a Republican Party run by liberals who sit on the sidelines and do absolutely nothing to change things?  We ARE living in a banana republic which is masquerading as a perfectly normal American state.  Democrats are getting away with murder.  But the Hawaii Republican Assembly is virtually alone in making the case, since the state GOP has chosen to be silent.  Even Pat Saiki has made it clear that the state GOP doesn't care what direction our state is going and doesn't care about the issues affecting the people of Hawaii.  It's been said that, "she doesn't have the time."

The average voter, taxpayer, commuter, family member is a very busy person these days.  Too busy to follow current events.  Too busy even to track trends and put two plus two together.  When you slowly raise the pot's temperature, the frog doesn't realize it's being boiled alive.  Our banana republic politicians are successfully turning our world upside-down in pursuit of a progressive utopia in which the well-connected fleece the rest of us through high taxes and sweetheart deals and in which 'anything goes' where values are concerned . . . particularly the values which have allowed civilization to keep from devolving into an immediate-gratification-with-zero-consequences free for all.

Join HIRA Today

Hawaii's Democrats and RINO's can be counted on to promote the disintegration of the good things in life while actively trying to blur the line between right and wrong.  On the other hand, you can count on the Hawaii Republican Assembly to lead the fight and to boldly proclaim what good people are thinking.  That's why good people like you need to join the Hawaii Republican Assembly (HIRA).  HIRA is active 365 days per year.  We have no real overhead to speak of.  Therefore every penny from memberships, donations, and events go to promoting bold conservative solutions and reforms that HIRA advocates right here in Hawaii.

So while the Republican state party headquarters has been hijacked and boarded up by the liberals who hold the key to that suite of offices, HIRA is open 24/7 and its members are determined to defeat Democrats and their failed policies, not to mention the closet Democrats who infiltrate Republican ranks in order for these RINO's to keep the Hawaii GOP neutral on the issues so they can vote for tax increases, big government and automatic enrollment of children in gay sex education classes.

We know you don't support Democrats.  We know you don't choose to support opportunistic closet Democrats who pretend to be Republicans.  That's why we hope you'll like the Hawaii Republican Assembly - conservative Republicans on issues from A to Z - and that you'll join us today so we can change Hawaii tomorrow.
