Message from the Editor: This Chronicle issue is off-schedule from the regular second and fourth Thursdays of the month. I deeply apologize for the delay in timely reporting and getting news out in the past few weeks. We have been, and are still dealing with, technology issues requiring new hardware and software. The Last Sunday After Pentecost
Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Archbishop of Polynesia Visits Hawai'i |
On November 11 to 13, 2024, the Diocese of Hawai'i was visited by the Most Reverend Sione Ulu‘ilakepa, Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia (the Polynesian branch of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia); Mrs. Losana Vao Latu Latu, Principal of St. Andrew’s High School, Tonga; and Mr. Fe‘iloakitau Kaho Tevi, Advisor to the Bishop of the Diocese of Polynesia and special Advisor to the King of Tonga.
They were here to reconnect with Hawaiʻi and our Diocese. The Right Reverend Alfred Charles Willis (3 February 1836 – 14 November 1920) was Bishop of this Diocese from 1872 to 1902. A staunch royalist, he opposed the illegal overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani and her government in 1893. When the United States moved to annex Hawaiʻi in 1902, Bishop Willis seceded jurisdiction of the Episcopal Church. He then moved to Tonga and established the Anglican Church in that Kingdom. One of his first actions in Tonga was to found St. Andrew’s School.
During their short stay, they were able to meet with members of the Standing Committee and Diocesan Council. Pictured above, Bishop Bob and Bea hosted a dinner (pictured L-R: the Archbishop, the Rev. and Mrs. Kaleo Patterson, Bishop Bob and Bea, the Rev. and Mrs. Mark Haworth [standing], Mr. Kaho Tevi, and Mrs.Vao Latu Latu). In the photo below, they enjoyed lunch with Diocesan Council members, Ms. Mary Carpenter and the Rev. Keleawe Hee, also hosted by Bishop and Bea.
| |
They also visited ‘Iolani School and St. Andrew’s Schools, and are pictured below with the Chaplains of 'Iolani School, the Revs. Andrew Arakawa and Tim Morehouse, and at right, with the staff of St. Andrew's Schools. The Archbishop and Bishop Bob hopes this will be the beginning of many future exchanges and expanded partnership with our sister Churches in Oceana. | |

CONVENTION 56 SPECIAL EDITION CHRONICLE COVERAGE
At long last, complete coverage of Convention 56 of The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i, is now available for viewing on the Diocese's news website. Held on October 11 and 12, 2024, at The Cathedral of St. Andrew and St. Peter's Episcopal Church, this year's theme, "In Thanksgiving for the Ministry of Women in the Episcopal Church," was evident throughout the two-day event. The Convention Chaplain (the Right Reverend Diana Akiyama, Bishop of Western Oregon), Education Day emcee, presenters and facilitators, including Morning Prayer and Celebrants for the Convention Eucharist, were all women.

Saturday's Annual Meeting went smoothly and ended two hours early, despite two resolutions coming from the floor, and a few ballots going into second and third rounds of voting during the elections. This is the third year that voting was done electronically through personal devices, and it has been a game changer. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive for both days. Mahalo to all for a great Convention 56!
"I truly was inspired and filled with the Holy Spirit being present at this convention. Out of all the diocesan conventions I have attended, for me, this was the most uplifting, rewarding, heart-felt experience of all [of them]." ~ Roth Puahala, The Cathedral of St. Andrew
