Dear Colleagues,
Meeting all of you on opening day was a true pleasure! Your energy and enthusiasm were contagious, reminding me of the shared passion that drives our work.
In his address, grounded in our updated strategic mission, President Koppell celebrated our continuous success in attracting and retaining students, thus advancing our public good mission to a broader and larger student population. He then invited us all to shift our attention from the collective to the individual. The growing enrollment is the sum of thousands of individual students, each with a unique story, unique assets and expectations, and each placing their faith in us—and in you.
Despite the current climate, challenges, and risks, they chose us. They trusted us with their dreams and futures. Opening day is our opportunity to accept that gift of trust and commit to earning it every day.
We honor our students’ trust in all that we do. You honor it through your teaching, scholarship, and student support. My team and I in the dean’s office honor it by serving and supporting you. Collectively, we honor our students by anchoring our attention in the present—listening to their needs and expectations—and by directing our decisions and actions toward the future, anticipating the skills and dispositions that will help them thrive in a range of possible futures.
