Dear GSLS Community,
What an incredible sense of synergy and excitement we experienced during this past week’s Back to School Nights on both the elementary and middle school campuses! From the warm smiles and engaging conversations between parents and teachers to the evident enthusiasm of our students as they embark on a new academic year, the enthusiasm for this school year was palpable. We are all working together—staff, families, and students—to ensure that this year will be one of growth, learning, and community. I am so proud of how our teachers showcased their classrooms and the rich academic and wholesome environment built upon the best pedagogical practices.
We eagerly anticipate the upcoming Back to School Night for our preschool program this Wednesday, September 18. Parents see firsthand what it is—an Early Childhood learning program and a gateway to an amazing K-8th grade education. We are proud of the preschool teachers at GSLS who received due recognition this past year by putting in place the learning program required to get it accredited by the Cadillac of Preschool accreditation agencies—the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Numerous studies in peer-reviewed journals suggest that the most significant indicator of a child’s success in university is not what they took in high school but whether the youngster attended an Early Childhood learning program like what is offered at GSLS.
The much-anticipated Middle School Outdoor Education experience will embark this upcoming week. It is a long-standing tradition at the GSLS Middle School to start the school year with several days at a camp for team-building activities and learning outside the classroom. This, along with the middle school’s new curriculum in English (CommonLit), Science (Amplify), and Spanish (Carnegie Learning Que Chevere), are just a few of the significant developments at the middle school. In upcoming newsletters, we will feature similar exciting developments within the lower school.
Best wishes for a blessed week,
Scott Root | GSLS Head of School | scott.root@gslsnovato.org
