Hawks Out and About
Did you know the Guadalupe River Park is home to a number of hawks, including red-shouldered and red-tailed species? If you've used the trail in recent weeks, it seems they're perched around every corner, be it on railings, poles, or atop the redwoods in the Gardens. The majority seen by staff are juvenile red-tailed hawks (the one pictured here was spotted atop the overlook south of Coleman Ave).
Let us know if you see them too by tagging us in your photos:

Join us and POW! WOW! San Jose Artist-in-Residence Roan Victor for a Native Plant Watercolor Session on Wednesday, October 21st.
POW! WOW! San Jose Kick Off
Our new Artist-in-Residency collaboration with POW! WOW! San Jose kicks off at the end of October with painting slated for the Woz Way overcrossing at the southern end of the park. We are grateful for those who provided input on this first activation via our survey, and at last month's Community Engagement Forum, and look forward to sharing the progress with you! In the meantime, you can check out artist Roan Victor's portfolio.
Volunteer Highlights
We are grateful for the volunteers who continue to provide support across the park and gardens and along the trail. You helped us fill 43 bags of trash in September and October to date. Want to help keep the momentum going? Join us for a Wednesday or Saturday morning workday in the Heritage Rose Garden or a Thursday morning clean up along the park trails, both of which will continue as weather permits.
Be Our Guest for Window on the River Park
Join us for our 19th annual Window on the River Park and the first-ever virtual celebration of all things Guadalupe River Park & Gardens! We're bringing the park to you this Thursday, October 22, at 5:30PM. Registration is free!

We appreciate the generous partners and sponsors who provide support for our mission.
BiNational Health Week Testing in Discovery Meadow
Community members received over 300 coronavirus tests and over 200 flu shots at Children's Discovery Museum on October 10th as part of BiNational Health Week in Santa Clara County. Jason and Claire were on hand to welcome participants to Discovery Meadow and send them off with pumpkins, reusable bags, and information about the park.
Around the Park and In Our Community
  • With California's recent public health guidelines permitting the reopening of outdoor playgrounds, we're working with our partners at City of San Jose Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services on reopening preparations for the Rotary PlayGarden. Follow the PlayGarden on Facebook for updates!

  • San Jose State University students are conducting park use observations and user interviews in support of San Jose's participation in Reimagining the Civic Commons. Please stay tuned on how to get involved in the near future.

  • D3 Decides Survey: help choose up to five community projects to fund in City of San Jose District 3, including one in Guadalupe River Park

  • Google Downtown West: review the latest plans and provide feedback at the next community meeting on October 19th

  • Trail Photo Contest: did you capture that perfect shot along the Guadalupe River Trail? Submit it in the annual National Recreation Trails photo contest (our Guadalupe is a designated trail) and you might win a prize!
