Project Overview

The City of Miami Beach has begun an emergency sewer force main replacement under Hawthorne Ave. Work crews have started at 75 St and Dickens Ave and will perform horizontal directional drilling under Tatum Waterway and Hawthorne Ave to connect pump stations 23 and 24.

What’s Happening

April 30 – June 22, 2026: Street parking along 75 St and Dickens Ave will be restricted. Access to Biscayne Beach Elementary School and Crab Alley will remain open. The north sidewalk will remain open to pedestrians. See the image below for restrictions highlighted in red.

May 4 – May 22, 2026: Street parking will be restricted on both sides of Hawthorn Ave, between Crespi Blvd and 81 St. The one-way streets between 79 and 81 streets have temporary turn-around spots at the end of each block. See the image below for restrictions highlighted in red.

The parking lane on the east side of Hawthorne Ave will be used for equipment staging. The parking lane on the west side of Hawthorne Ave will be used to maintain two-way traffic. Access to and from driveways along Hawthorne Ave will remain accessible. 

May 22 – June 5, 2026: Street parking will be restricted along Hawthorne Ave between 81 and 85 streets. The one-way streets between 82 and 84 streets will have temporary turn-around spots at the end of each block. See the image below for restrictions highlighted in red.

The parking lane on the east side of Hawthorne Ave will be used for equipment staging. The parking lane on the west side of Hawthorne Ave will be used to maintain two-way traffic. Access to and from driveways along Hawthorne Ave will remain accessible.  .

What to Expect

• City surface parking lots north of 75 St are available for overnight parking, from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.
• Temporarily reduced parking and traffic alterations along Hawthorne Ave.
• Construction equipment and staging along Hawthorne Ave.
• Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with limited nighttime work.
• Weekend work is expected to facilitate the construction schedule. Residents will be notified in advance of weekend work.    
• Access over the 77 St Bridge will be open.
• Regular updates on parking restrictions and (Maintenance of Traffic) MOT closures as project progresses.

Timeline

• Total Duration of Project: April 30 to November 25, 2026.
• Anticipated Duration of Parking Impacts Completed in Stages: May 4 to June 22, 2026. 
• Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with limited nighttime work. 
• Weekend work is expected to facilitate the construction schedule. Residents will be notified in advance of weekend work. 
• Asphalt patch restoration will be completed by August 25, 2026. 
• Final asphalt resurfacing will be completed by November 25, 2026.

Phase I Timeline

• 75 St and Dickens Ave: April 30 until June 22, 2026.
• Hawthorne Ave and Crespi Blvd to 82 St: May 4 until May 22, 2026.
• The parking restrictions, completed in phases, will be in place 24/7. Residents can participate in Zone 26 parking and are allowed to park overnight in city surface parking lots north of 75 St. Residents will be notified if the restrictions require an extension. 

Phase 2 Timeline

• Hawthorne Ave between 82 and 85 streets: May 22 until June 22, 2026.
• The parking restrictions, completed in phases, will be in place 24/7. Residents can participate in Zone 26 parking and are allowed to park overnight in city surface parking lots north of 75 St. Residents will be notified if the restrictions require an extension.
