January 10, 2020
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Here at Delaware Hayes, we are constantly looking to get better every day. We are always exploring new and more effective ways to improve practices that move the "academic needle" to better serve our students. We implemented the House system to offer more opportunities for students and staff. This change has afforded more chances for connections, clubs, mentoring, community service, participation and intervention. As part of our continuous improvement process, we are a vital part of the Delaware City Schools Strategic Planning process as we explore ways to improve our teaching and learning across our district.

We are beginning to examine our teaching and learning practices and looking to improve. The feedback from our Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Audit last year informed us that we needed to be more systematic in our approach to assess data and using the performance standards (provided by the State of Ohio) to drive instruction. As most of you know, our high school has made great gains in State Testing and we feel this feedback will provide us the direction we need to make even more significant improvements.

We have begun the journey to improve our implementation of standards with every teacher and with every department. Teachers and administrators are working together to prioritize the state standards and develop proficiency scales for students to improve learning and to demonstrate mastery. Our work together is at the beginning stage, however we have already begun to see the positive results in test score improvement, less student failures and increased student achievement. I will continue to keep you in the loop on this academic journey, please take part in the district Strategic Planning process, and thank you for your continued support of our high school.

                          Delaware Area Career Center

*DACC is hosting 2nd look days for students that may be interested in applying for one of their programs.   Click on the link for more information:  DACC Second Look Days

*For students that are applying to a DACC program, the priority deadline is quickly approaching.  The first round of applications are due by January 17, 2020

*As junior students are planning ahead for next year and beginning to really contemplate what their next steps will be after graduation, we wanted to pass along information that is valuable for students with an interest in healthcare, medicine or pharmacy.

DACC offers a senior-only Pharmacy Technician Program for students looking to get experience working within the health, medical or pharmacy fields. Students who did not enroll in a two-year DACC health-related program may find their fit here with other students who have similar goals and interests.

This program lays the groundwork for a student to launch into a health, medicine or pharmacy-related career -- students cover the dispensing process, pharmacy law, medication safety, HIPAA, sterile & nonsterile compounding and memorize the top 200 drugs...just to name a few!
