May 14, 2019
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

As we enter the final lap of our 2018-2019 school year, the activities have truly ramped up. This Thursday afternoon we send off our Seniors with a Delaware Hayes "Last Walk". Our send-off tradition begins in the Commons with congratulations, a College & Career Signing Ceremony followed by an Ice Cream Social. Our Hayes Marching Band will lead the Class of 2019 around the school for the final time. The festivities culminate with the entrance into the stadium to the thunderous applause of the entire study body as the Seniors take a victory lap around the field and through a Tunnel of Pride made by their teachers. It should be quite a day. All parents, of course, are welcome!

This Friday, May 17th marks, our 4th annual "House Games". This day of fun, friendship, teamwork, competition, and celebration consists of over thirty events! The events include competitions in the Arts, Athletics and Academics. Many of our local business and community leaders will help judge the outcomes. Each of our eight houses will compete for the coveted, Koogler House Cup. This day is the culminating event from our year-long House competition.

On Thursday May 23rd our upperclassmen will be recognized and honored at the "Night of Excellence". This celebration highlights our Senior's achievements, nearly $2 million in college scholarships, Presidential Awards, and community recognitions.

The 143rd Delaware Hayes Commencement will take place in the Stadium at 10:00 am on Saturday May 25th. We will celebrate the class of 2019 as they process in unity with a solid color platinum gown with a bronze Blue Ribbon School of Excellence medal (with a pacer orange ribbon) around their necks. This class has been remarkable and we congratulate all 392 of them.

Our underclassmen, complete their school year with three days of Final Exams on Friday May 24th, Tuesday May 28th and Wednesday May 29th.

I want to thank all of you for your support of our high school. This community continues to be a part of our efforts on a journey to get better every year. We had a year with the highest academic success in history, two students scoring perfect scores on the ACT (first time ever!), groups competing at the National level in Robotics, Business, speech, and ROTC. Our Arts program is the finest all around in the state of Ohio. We continue to rack up league championships in Athletics with many of our students competing for state titles. This year, led by the class of 2019 and a faculty and staff that is second to none, was truly one to remember. You have my word that we will continue the trajectory that the community of Delaware is proud of. Have a beautiful summer.

CLINIC NEWS

Incoming Seniors: Ohio Law requires that all students enrolled in the Twelfth Grade have a Meningitis (Menactra) vaccine. The state requires 2 Meningitis vaccines or one if it was given after the 16th birthday. Please provide the school a copy of your student's record by the beginning of the school year.

All medication in the clinic at Hayes will need to be picked up by 3:00 on Wednesday, May 29th. If the medication in the clinic is over-the-counter, your son/daughter may stop by the clinic at the end of any school day to pick it up to bring home. Any prescription medications MUST be picked up by a parent . The clinic is open during school days from 7:15 am to 3:00 pm. If you need to make other arrangements, please call 740-833-1019. ALL medications that are not picked up will be disposed of through the Delaware City Police School Resource Officer.

Just a reminder:
The Ohio Revised Code and School District Policy does not permit using the same Medication Administration form for different school years. Your child will need to have a new Medication Administration form signed for the 2019-20 school year. Forms for the new school year can be picked up in the school office or found online at:

Please remember to set up your student's appointments with their doctor this summer to get medical orders for the 2019/20 School year.
