Disaster Plan
Meeting to oppose Heathrow expansion - 15 July

As reported in Hayes Town News a couple of weeks ago Heathrow has published its 'Preferred Master Plan' for the building of a third runway and the expansion of the Airport. Click here for details. There is going to be a series of meetings and exhibitions across the region but there is nothing planned for Hayes although it will be overflown by planes for the first time and suffer years of disruption during construction. I asked Heathrow the reasons for this omission and the reply was as follows:

"Heathrow are hosting more events than in previous consultations and have tried to ensure that consultation events are as accessible as possible, however we are unfortunately unable to provide events in all areas" The list of other locations can be seen by clicking here .

Local group SHE (Stop Heathrow Expansion) has launched a campaign to oppose the plans and it is entitled 'Heathrow's Preferred Disaster Plan' . As part of this they have published a booklet on 'How a Third Runway will affect you and your family' and this can be seen by clicking here . It shows the impact on Hayes.

There will be three public meetings called by SHE, the first on Monday 15 July at 7pm at Pinkwell Primary School. Pinkwell Lane Hayes UB3 1PG. Click here for more details of the campaign and other public meetings.

Dementia
Helping dementia sufferers - 22 July

Would you recognise the signs of dementia? Would you know how to respond? A survey I did last month for the Hillingdon Dementia Action Alliance showed that some shops in Hayes were really on the ball while others were left wanting. Now an awareness-raising workshop is being organised on Monday 22 July in Botwell Green Library for shops, banks, hairdressers, opticians and others. To find out more click here , There may be some spare places. Please send me an email if you are interested in attending

Laraine
Outstanding College Principal to retire

Laraine Smith has been an absolutely outstanding Principal and Chief Executive of Uxbridge College which she has developed into the number one college in London for 16 to 18 year old students. As well as securing national awards for the quality of the College's work with students she has transformed the facilities available at both the Uxbridge and Hayes campuses. On top of that she has managed the complex amalgamation of Uxbridge and Harrow Colleges into one.

She is retiring at the end of term and I have written to her on behalf of the Hayes Town Partnership to thank her for everything she has done for young people in Hayes. I attended her retirement event last week as shown in the picture. She is truly going to be a hard act to follow.
Hair show
Hair and beauty students celebrate

Talking of Uxbridge College students at the Hair and Beauty Studios at the Hayes Campus have held an end of term celebration to showcase all that they have achieved this year. They took part in a dance and cat walk event entitled 'The Final Curtain' at the College's Edge Theatre in Hayes.

As well as providing hair and beauty treatments to the public in the Distinction training salons at the Hayes campus, the students undertake work experience with local salons and spas, For more pictures of those who took part click here .
Kooth
Online help for young people in crisis

Have you heard of Kooth, an online counselling an advice service for 11 to 19 year olds? This was unknown to me until I attended the Annual General Meeting of the Hillingdon Clinical Commissioning Group last week. It is run by an independent national charity and has been introduced locally to meet the mental health needs of young people in the Borough. It recognises that members of the younger generation much prefer getting their information from the internet. Evidently it has been very well used since its introduction last year.
