Have you ever imprinted your hand or foot into concrete before it dries? We did that in Miami growing up and I also did that with foot impressions of my kids on concrete in the backyard.
Pushing your hand into something soft like that will have your hand sink down right? Same thing when a house pushes down into the ground if the soil is not well compacted.
