Discipleship and Education
by David Sweet

I was given the privilege to preach on October 20 and one point that I did not have time to include follows:

John 15:2a  "Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away..."  When does that happen?  We know that Jesus later describes a judgment of those who are not true branches, but does the Father who tends the vine actually remove false branches today?

John 6 says "  After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him."  They were offended by Jesus' teachings about Himself.

1 John 2:19 says " They went out from us...they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us."
The Apostle Paul said " For  Demas , in love with this present world, has deserted me."  2 Timothy 4:3  "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions."

I think it is only when a church is true to the gospel, that those who are not truly converted will either repent and believe, or will be offended and leave.  That's one way in which God may remove false branches. If we don't preach the true gospel then the church becomes spiritually sick and fills with false branches, and the Lord removes His blessing.  (Revelation 2:5)

"Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent." (Rev. 3:19) Another way that may God remove false branches is through hardship.  If someone turns against the discipline of God and turns against Christ because of hardship, that may be another way in which a false branch is removed.  If you were expecting self-fulfillment and self-involvement in your faith, you fell for the wrong gospel and the wrong Jesus.

If we as members of Hays Hills give loyalty to any other belief system (religious, political, social) that competes with the gospel of Jesus Christ, not only are we showing ourselves to be in spiritual danger, but we are also "emptying the cross of its power." (1 Cor. 1:17)  That may be one of the most damning sins a church can commit.

The true gospel of Jesus Christ has nothing to do with cultural Christianity in which Jesus is just a prop and not Lord.  Make sure the gospel and the Jesus you are abiding in, is the gospel and the Jesus of the Bible.  And if so, there won't be any comparison between your loyalty to His Kingdom and your loyalty to any other.

HELP!  If the Lord gives you an extra $5 this week, prayerfully consider giving toward "crisis" (see offering envelope).  Our crisis fund by which we respond to a variety of crisis--is running very low.  THANKS!

CLC News

Yesterday we had such a fun day at our Noah's Ark Festival and we had so many cute "animals" around the school!  The children enjoyed playing in the farm animal obstacle course and moonwalk, snow cones, face painting, and games!  We also had a visit from Capital of Texas Zoo, and I think the favorite of the exotic animal they saw were the otters who performed tricks for the children!

We would like to thank all of our parent volunteers who helped make this event a success for our children!

In our chapel time, we are continuing to memorize our Bible verse for the month:  "Let your light shine" Matthew 5:16.  We have also been learning more about Noah's Ark and God's promise to us.  Next month we will begin preparing for our upcoming nativity play on December 17!

May you be blessed this week!
From Pastor Aaron

This Sunday, November 3rd, is the international day of prayer for the persecuted church. We want to remember our brothers and sisters around the world who are under attack for their faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sunday will also be a day of celebration as we worship through baptism, child dedication, and thank the Lord for the 15 year ministry of Tim & Sandra Snowden at Hays Hills.

At 4:30pm, we'll gather to share our appreciation for the Snowdens and send them off in a manner worthy of our Lord. At 6:00pm, we'll convene for a special called members' meeting where we will have opportunity to discuss the next steps for us as a church. The Administration Committee has worked hard on creating an updated job description and along with the elders will be presenting it to the church for their approval.  You can view the job description via the link below.
