Tell It To Two

Tell It To Two is a challenge to all members to pray for the salvation of two people and to pray for the opportunity to tell those two people the gospel.

We've invited our neighbors to church and the wife has come a few times.  I've gotten to know the husband just talking while doing yard work.  I finally asked him what his church experience was and he said he didn't grow up going to church, and what he saw on television ("the flashiness") of Christians turned him off.  I'll have to admit that if I were lost, and my only knowledge of Christians is what I saw on TV, I would drive faster past churches!

But we've grown to like each other and so he was very insistent that Melissa and I come to a cook out/pool party he was throwing.  We aren't normally party people but saw it as an important step of neighborliness.  When we got there, there were a lot of his co-workers with their families, and some of his family, and a few neighbors.  While everyone was watching the kids swim, I got to talk to a few of his co-workers and to his brother and had a good rapport.  The food was good!  When I saw my neighbor the next day he was so glad we came and was wondering what we thought.  We look forward to this friendship and pray for opportunities to present the gospel.

Melissa and I are teetotalers and there were various alcoholic drinks being imbibed at this party, which didn't offend me, but we didn't stay but an hour and a half.  Jesus said "if you only greet your friends (church people just like you) whoop-de-do (that's a very liberal translation) even the pagans do that!"

We have ONE MISSION, to take people to heaven with us.  You can't do that if you aren't neighborly.  ~ David Sweet

From Pastor Aaron

I'm writing from Dallas, TX, as I attend the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. As our denomination elects officers, makes decisions about the direction of future ministry efforts, and worships together, I'm reminded that it's not easy to work with others. We don't always see eye to eye and at times step on one another's toes. But I'm also reminded why I'm proud to be a Southern Baptist: we can do more together.

Tuesday evening we will commission new IMB missionaries to be sent to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the nations. Those missionaries have been vetted and trained with resources no single church would ever have access to. The missionaries will be sent to the field and supported by a network of leadership and accountability that no single church would ever have access to.

Working together we are reaching the nations for Jesus Christ. Working together we are training pastors and missionaries at our six SBC seminaries. Working together we are planting new churches and revitalizing existing churches right here in North America. Working together Jesus Christ is being glorified and His kingdom is being established through the Southern Baptist Convention. It's not always easy being a Southern Baptist, but it's worth it!

I'm proud to be a Southern Baptist. I'm proud to serve a church that generously gives to the Cooperative Program. I'm proud to be able to say we're "standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, striving side by side for the faith of the gospel." (Philippians 1:27)
