October 2023 Newsletter

It’s been a busy fall semester so far here at Maestro Music Institute. We’ve had a number of really fun & exciting events already. Here’s a recap so far!

Hazel Miller Master Class

In September, as part of our Master Class Series, we enjoyed an exceptional lecture with the legendary local music icon, Hazel Miller.

She was inspiring, funny, down to earth and incredibly interesting!

Kipling Meadows Assisted Living Performance

Just a few days after the Hazel Miller lecture, several of our students performed at Kipling Meadows Assisted Living in Arvada–with a wide variety of talent, including Jason J playing Asturias by Isaac Albeniz and Lena W. singing and playing guitar to Taylor Swift as well as some original music of her own. Other notable performances by Cecelia O, singing “You’re a grand old flag”, Julia E on piano and vocals, Lily W on piano and Tara B on piano as well. The residents of Kipling Meadows loved the performance and are requesting that we return soon with more student performances. Stay tuned for the next date!

Rock Band Performances!

Our two student-rock bands: Da Weirdos and Harmonizing Indecision performed at La Dolce Vita Coffee shop in Olde Town Arvada, Thursday October 12th to a very enthusiastic audience!

Da Weirdos performed: Brain Stew (Green Day), Void (Melanie Martinez) and Sparks Fly (Taylor Swift)

Austin on drums, keys

Bishop on drums, bass

Shana on voice and keys

Zahra on guitar and voice

Harmonizing Indecision performed: Valerie (Amy Winehouse), Mr. Bluesky (ELO), Innocent (Taylor Swift) and Another one bites the dust (Queen)

Blake: Keys, drums, voice

Julia: Keys, drums, voice

Lena: guitar and voice

17 year old Lena also did a solo set of all original music including: Fallen Moments, Want, Whisper in the Walls, Under Water.

Both bands joined forces at the end to perform We Will Rock You (Queen)

One of the coolest things about students joining rock band is that they not only get to hone their skills on their primary instrument and have the opportunity to play with other developing musicians-if they want to, they get to try out other instruments–learn a song on that instrument and get it ready for performance.

It was such a fun way for them to be able to try out new instruments, new musical genres and meet new friends doing the same thing!

Check out pictures of our fantastic rockers below. Thank you to all that joined us in supporting our young rockers!
