As we wind down 2021, the Health by Design team is excited to be working on our 15-year anniversary edition Annual Report. Be on the lookout for the report release in early 2022!

New Grant Funding for Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements! The Indiana Department of Health has announced Planning Grants for communities to conduct community-wide bicycle and pedestrian planning activities. Applications for funding are due Thursday, January 20, 2022. More information can be found at the Division of Nutrition & Physical Activity website, here!

Safe Routes to Parks has new funding resources to guide your safe routes projects! Learn about choosing the right funding sources, local budget basics for active transportation, building partnerships, and more. Find these and many more resources on their website.

Big 4 Trail Masterplan Approved!

Health by Design has been working alongside the City of Lafayette, the City of West Lafayette, and Tippecanoe County to develop the Big 4 Trail Master Plan. Last week both city councils, the county commissioners, the county technical transportation committee, and the MPO policy board all approved and adopted the plan. We are excited for the future of trails and active transportation in Tippecanoe County!

Indianapolis Funding Opportunities

  • The Indianapolis Department of Public Works’ Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership (INIP) is accepting applications now until January 31, 2022! Community-based organizations are encouraged to apply for matching funds to build projects in the city's right-of-way that improve the quality of life for Indy residents in and near their neighborhoods or institutions, such as sidewalks, trails or roadway upgrades.   • The Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center (INRC) is seeking neighborhood applicants to take part in the center’s Creative Placemaking Program! Through a partnership with the Harrison Center, selected neighborhoods will receive training, one-on-one coaching, project consultation, and monetary support to implement a neighborhood-developed and neighborhood-implemented creative placemaking project. Submissions are due February 4, 2022. Click here to learn more!
