We've updated our Strategic Plan!

In 2018, Health by Design adopted a strategic plan that was a result of more than a year of collaboration from consultants, board members, staff, funders, and coalition members and partners. This 2022-2023 strategic plan builds on the previous plan and that framework with updated mission, vision, organizational goals, and strategies.

Health by Design Seeking Contractor Support

Health by Design is seeking to add staff capacity by contracting for support with project management, planning services, community engagement, walking/biking/transit subject matter expertise, and more. If you are interested and available – whether as an individual or through your organization – please contact us at [email protected] to learn more about the roles and responsibilities.

Registration is LIVE for Bike & Roll to School Day!

Bike & Roll to School Day is May 4! The official Walk Bike to School website is back up and running, so now is the perfect time to register your event. You can also find tools for planning and event ideas on their site. Indiana already has a handful of schools hosting events--let's keep them coming and get more students biking and rolling!

You can also reach out to Health by Design for ideas and technical support on implementing a Bike & Roll to School Day. We can't wait to see Indiana students biking and rolling to school on May 4!

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

The National Safety Council logo and an icon of a road that says "Just Drive"

The National Safety Council has resources such as videos, infographics, fact sheets, and more to spread the word, learn, and educate others about Distracted Driving Awareness Month. While we work toward long-term systems change and Vision Zero, we can supplement our work by encouraging safe behavior changes. You (and your friends, family, and co-workers!) can take the Just Drive Pledge to not use your phone while operating a vehicle. Access the materials on the NSC website!

Rural Transportation Case Studies

Smart Growth America is searching for rural communities willing to tell their stories about transportation, land use, and development strategies!

If your town has initiated work to improve transit access, adopt a complete streets policy, implement a form-based code, or invested in main street revitalization, they want to hear about your success stories and ongoing challenges.

Fill out this survey or email Anushka Thakkar if you are interested in telling your story or would like to recommend a community for its amazing work!
