9/2 - Second & Third Grade Students Return for In-Person Instruction or Continue Digital Learning for the Semester.
We have enjoyed having our kindergarten and first grade in-person students join us at school this week. On Wednesday, we will have our second and third grade students joining us. We had a great turnout for our first Lunch and Learn sessions today. We appreciate the great feedback as we look to improve our digital learning.
For our second and third grade students returning next Wednesday, we encourage them to bring their own device, if they have one. Any computers that were loaned to students that are returning in-person should be brought back to school. For our in-person students, we do use computers throughout the day to take assessments, complete individualized tasks or to conduct research.
Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, as the drinking fountains have been turned off to avoid cross contamination.
Bus numbers and stops for your child can be found in the parent portal. Please make sure you visit MyPaymentsPlus to sign the return to school handbook and the alternate bus form if your child will not be riding the bus. Car rider tags will be given out in the afternoon of the first day of school.
Buses this week were running a little early, as we only have a few students on the bus. After all grade levels return, the schedules will be more consistent.
For our car rider parents, please try to arrive prior to 8:40 as all bus students are in the building by 8:30. This will allow your child to get settled and ready for the announcements and class meeting by 8:45. The car rider line ends promptly at 8:45. Any parent arriving after 8:45 will need to park their car and walk their child in to the building. A child is considered tardy after 8:50.
We look forward to having our students return to school in the next few weeks. We will work hard to make sure that our digital students are included in all class and school activities.

Book Holds (how to tell they are ready...)
If your child puts a hold on a book by 3:30 pm on Wednesday it will be ready to pick up on Friday, if it is available. Hours to pick up for virtual learners are Fridays from 9:15-10:45 am and 1:00-2:15 pm. In person learners will have book deliveries throughout the week. You can put books on hold from home for in-school or virtual learners.
In the media catalog, click on the tab on the top left of the screen (hamburger-3 lines) to show holds, checkouts, etc. Books unavailable should still show under hold tab and will be checked out to the student when available. Under the checkout tab it will show all checked out to the student so you know you are ready for Friday pickup.

Usernames & Passwords
Returning students have the same username & password as last year. Can't remember your username & password?
Please contact your child's teacher instead of calling the Front Office: https://www.gcpsk12.org/heades/staff
New Students & Kindergarten Students: You should have received your login information during In-Person Open House.
Student Portal Temporary Change
In order to assist in Portal traffic flow, a temporary change has been made to the Student Portal. Therefore the icons your students may be used to seeing are currently not there.
To get to your teacher's eCLASS Course page, click on My eCLASS Course Pages.
To access your student's G Suite (Google for Education) account and Google Classroom, click on G Suite for Education.
The district will restore the standard Student Portal as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
Accessing G Suite & Google Classroom
This year, many of our teachers will be using Google Classroom.
Please follow these steps for setting up your student's GCPS Google account for the first time.
Mobile Devices & Digital Learning
If you will be using a mobile device for digital learning, please make sure to load the following apps to your device.
All of these apps are free and can be found in your device's app store.
Once you have downloaded these apps to your device, use these directions to guide you through connecting the Google apps to your child's GCPS Google account: https://bit.ly/3itCMyV
If you are using a personal Chromebook, it will default to your personal Google account when trying to open Google items which can cause issues when trying to open items that are restricted for GCPS accounts only.
Please follow these directions for adding the student GCPS account as a separate profile on their Chromebook.
IMPORTANT - You must connect to your home WiFi network FIRST before logging in. View the help guide above for directions. (Note-If the Portal is down like it was today for a time, students will not be able to log into the school Chromebook until the site is up & running again.)
Adding Zoom to School Chromebooks: https://bit.ly/2PNMEHr
Tip: Please make sure to download Zoom instead of trying to use the web browser.
Unfortunately, YouTube videos will most likely not work whether on a personal computer or school computer if the student is logged in under the GCPS G Suite.
This is due to district restrictions that are placed on student Google accounts.
There's an App for That!
New for the 2020-2021 school year, GCPS students can use their smartphones to access StudentVUE to find grades, schedules, and more!
