Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year, Ms. Duggan.  Ms. Duggan is our Instructional Technology Coordinator.  Her support has been instrumental in helping our teachers transition to digital learning for our at home students.  In addition, she helps students learn new technology skills throughout the year.
Thank you to all the parents that attended our virtual PTA general meeting.  The PTA budget was approved during this meeting.
Please join us on Thursday, October 1 at 6:00 for our first School Council meeting.  This will be a virtual meeting.  Check out our website for the agenda.  (Please note the time of 6:00.  It was incorrect in last week's newsletter) A Zoom link will be sent out Thursday morning.
Just a reminder that students are not allowed to bring in birthday treats for the whole class unless they are store bought individually wrapped items.  Parents can purchase ice cream for the class.  Ice cream is $1.00 and available every day.
As we move into the second nine weeks of instruction, we realize that some families may have changes that have occurred or students that are struggling with the current model of instruction that was selected on the GCPS survey where you made a choice between digital learning or in-person learning.  Parents were asked to make the commitment for the semester.  Changes for individual students are being considered for the second nine weeks if needed to better serve the students. We will be doing individual considerations of students based on student and/or family's needs.  Parents wanting an instructional learning change for the second nine weeks need to contact Ms. Johnson via email at lisa.marie.johnson@gcpsk12.org by October 5 with the change occurring at the start of the second nine-weeks on October 13.  Once the school is able to review all of the information, we will communicate with each family.  Any requests made after October 5 will not be allowed.  Parents will have an opportunity to reevaluate their instructional model again at the end of the semester and make changes in January.

Thank you to all the parents, teachers and administrators who took time out of their day to attend the PTA General Meeting on Tuesday! Our budget was voted on and unanimously approved.
Reflections entries are due in 1 week! There's now a link included in the Entry form that you can upload your entry form and digital submissions of projects like videos, songs, or dances. Our August challenge: First day of school pics! This can be digital learning first day or in-school first day!
Our September challenge: Visit a natural outdoor body of water (creek, stream, waterfall, river, lake, ocean, or sea) or outdoor water activity (water sprinkler, water balloons, swimming pool, water slide)

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Early Release Days for Parent-Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, October 21st and Thursday, October 22nd. Due to current COVID-19 guidelines, all conferences will be facilitated through Zoom.

Head Elementary will be utilizing an online scheduling system for this session of conferences. The online sign-up window will open on Friday, October 2nd at 4:00 PM and close on Friday, October 16th at 4:00 PM.

A step-by-step direction sheet will be sent to parents through School Messenger on Friday, October 2nd.

SchoolMessenger is a rapid notification system used to contact families in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) via telephone messages, text messages, and email messages. The district uses the system to communicate information related to districtwide events, including safety alerts and school closings due to inclement weather. Schools also may use the system to communicate general/non-emergency information related to school events and attendance messages via email.
1) Make sure you are signed up for SchoolMessenger notifications by following these directions: https://tinyurl.com/r3nc5nh

2) Verify the accuracy of your contact information in your Parent Portal account. The SchoolMessenger service is based on parent/guardian information that we have on file at the school. https://tinyurl.com/yygka6yq

We are so happy to see so many digital students picking up books on our Fun Fridays!  Please keep putting books on hold by 4pm on Wednesdays, and don't forget to take the AR quizzes!  Our cut off for September AR is September 30, so our results for the month will be coming out next week!
Our in-school friends are starting to put books on hold (as time allows) in school, but if you can let your child put 2-3 books on hold from home it will be a big help to us.

Please remember we will only fill 2 requests per series. Mrs. Griffith bought hundreds of new books in the spring so browse around for something new to read!

Here's a reminder on how to search for 'just right" books.

Book Fair information
Our online fall book fair will be tentatively held from 10/15 -10/28 with purchases being sent right to your home. There are exciting titles and great prices with over 6,000 items to choose from. This will be great for holiday shopping, teacher gifts, or just stocking up on favorite books. This is a huge fundraiser for the Media Center, and we will really appreciate your support. Look for more information soon!

Monday is our Color Stables Dress Up Day! Those who are digital can participate too! Click on the link below and upload a picture of yourself in your awesome colors on our padlet.

The Reflections deadline is right around the corner! Make sure your student gets their submission in to the front office by October 2nd! Digital and in person students can participate. Artwork depicting the theme of "I Matter Because..." can be submitted in any of the categories such as visual 2D or 3D art, photography, literature, dance choreography, film production, music composition, and special artists.  If you have any questions, please contact the Reflections Committee at Reflections.HeadES.PTA@gmail.com.  We can't wait to see what you do!

Be sure to register with the NEW Box Top app. Choose R.D. Head as your school (friends and family can do it too! Near or far!) and scan your receipts to digitally send your Box Tops in to us. Each Box Top is worth 10ยข for our school. **You may still find the old pink Box Tops on items. When you do, clip the Box Tops from the packages and send them to your child's teacher. The old box tops are still good until their expiration date!**
